Apple's iOS 13 is now available for your iPhone or iPod touch
lighteningkid said:Does anyone have tips or a resource on how to update multiple iPhones (iPhone 8, if it matters) at the same time, without downloading the files over and over? Most of the resources I see online are from 2011 and I imagine it's changed.
If you have a Mac you can use it as a software update cache.
Updates get downloaded to it... then your devices update from it rather than Apple's servers.
System Preferences -> Sharing -> Content Cache
*Note: Doc says after caching is turned on, reboot your devices to locate the cache quicker. -
Apple's Phil Schiller and Anand Shimpi tease details of A13 Bionic chip
There seems be a misunderstanding making its way around the web...octa-core neural engine for machine intelligence functions that can run a trillion operations per second
That's from the Wired article and I've read it elsewhere... This is false. The Neural Engine in the A12 performs 5 trillion ops. The NE in the A13 has a 20% performance increase over that; 6 trillion.
The "trillion operations per second" figure being regurgitated over and over is the performance of the CPU with its new ML accelerators.
Update: The Wired articles was updated...octa-core neural engine for machine intelligence functions that can run over five trillion operations per second -

Horrendous. Key piece of hardware is missing... the controller that can drop the refresh rate from 60Hz down to 1Hz. -
Apple disputes allegations that Apple TV+ trial will drive down stock price
tmay said:The only issue I have is with the free 1 year trials with a device purchase.
That's going to draw the ire of a lot of pundits, and regulators, even though Amazon Prime is basically the same thing.
On the other hand, my purchasing an Apple device once a year is pretty much what I do.
The free year of tv+ is a positive for competitors, not a negative. There's no reason for anyone to "worry".mike1 said:Curious whether I could effectively never pay for the service since my wife and I are on alternating, 2-year upgrade cycles for phones. Assuming, of course the 1-year promo continues. Hmm.
It's one-time deal based on your iCloud account. From Apple's website...$4.99/month after free trial. One subscription per Family Sharing group. Offer good for 3 months after eligible device activation, starting November 1, 2019. Plan automatically renews until cancelled. Restrictions and other terms apply. -
iPhone 11: How Apple makes tech of the future affordable
nubus said:iPhone 11 is far from X. OLED and 3D Touch are gone. A13 is a minor twist on A12 which itself was a 7nm shrink of the A11 Bionic in the X. Apple is doing a great job at stripping features and standing still in certain areas to let costs come down.
First of all, not sure why you're comparing iPhone 11 with X? iPhone 11 is positioned the same as the iPhone 8 of that generation, and iPhone XR of from last year.
A13 has a 20% performance gain with 40% less power draw over the A12. How in the hell can you consider that minor? You do understand this is a mobile device, right? These chips are already considered overpowered as it is, so being able to reduce power consumption is probably at the top of everyone's list.
2019, iPhone 11 $699, 2018, iPhone XR $749 ... $50 dollars cheaper, explain what was stripped to bring that cost down?
