  • Confusion reigns over iPhone 11 Pro RAM, benchmarking tests

Does anyone know why Apple choose 2 wide angle back camera instead one extra wide and one tele photo ?

Although he was referring to the dual camera system on the iPhone 11, John Gruber from Daring Fireball mentions...
Fundamentally it’s a bet on the power of computational photography — it’s easier to zoom in digitally than it is to compute a wider field of view.

But as was also mentioned on stage... that extra wide lens can be used in really tight shots, “When there’s no room to back up.”

Instead of outright banning certain titles that do abuse IAP and then having to listen to screams of "monopolistic behavior", this may be a "nicer" attempt to squash those apps out of the store?
Aren't you conflating two very separate issues?  IAP has nothing to do with claims of monopolistic behavior.

    But banning apps does.
Maybe it's a lack of coffee.  I have no idea what you're trying to convey.  Apologies.

There are certain games that abuse IAP, specifically targeting children. This is nothing new; there have been many articles written about it.

Apple could ban those developers from the App Store, but if they did, we would hear about how Apple is abusing its "monopoly". A common claim these days - there have been many articles written about it.

By producing an inexpensive subscription gaming service with a family plan, Apple is offering parents a way to steer their kids away from those abusive apps.

This could potentially lead to some of those developers going out of business or no longer having an interest in iOS development. Thus, saving Apple from directly stepping in and "scolding" those developers and getting the normal anti-Apple backlash.

  • Apple says Face ID is coming to more devices, but Touch ID continues

    mobird said:
I have the iPhone X and will for the foreseeable future. Is the faster Face ID limited to the iPhone 11 or will there be a discernible improvement for the X series iPhones with the addition of iOS 13?

They wouldn’t announce an improvement that only applies to an unreleased device... So the 30% applies to all devices with Face ID.

  • Apple issues statement refuting Google's 'false impression' of iOS security [u]

    Good for Apple.

The importance of Google’s Project Zero cannot be overstated, but the handling of this issue was sloppy and irresponsible. It’s now obvious this was little more than a smear campaign against Apple as the issue was not only fixed in a timely manner 6 months ago, but singling out iOS as the only target was disingenuous when vulnerabilities in Windows and Android were exploited as well.

There is no way the Project Zero team did not know ALL the facts of this “attack” and it’s apparent that Google marketing must’ve stepped in and decided to publicly disclose only certain aspects to disparage iOS.

  • Judge rules against forcing suspects to unlock phones with Touch ID or Face ID

On one hand I can see the "inherently testimonial" argument on this.

On the other hand, how is a warrant to unlock a device via Face ID or Touch ID different than a warrant to allow police into your house to search for something?

Because it takes no action on the "suspects" part to gain access to the house and search it. The idea behind the law is that you cannot compel an individual to take part in their own incrimination. This is why entrapment is illegal as well as coercing a suspect in any way.

A warrant gives authority to gain access and search. It does not void a "suspects" 5th Admendmant right, which is the right to stand aside and do nothing and remain silent.
