  • Geekbench ML 0.6 lets you directly compare Mac against iPhone

Just to give everybody an idea of how far we've come in only 6 years, the iPhone 15 Pro Max beats my old iMac 2017 (10 core) in 2 of the 3 Geekbench 0.6 ML benchmarks. The iPhone got CPU, GPU and Neural Engine of 2517,3560, and 6024 respectively.  The iMac, with its AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT eGPU, scored 475, 4618, and 4681.   It took a dedicated GPU to outperform an iPhone!  I'd love to see the results of the M3 Max on this test!

  • M3 MacBook Air update due in March, M3 Mac Pro in late 2024

It's disappointing if Apple doesn't release the M3 Mini and Studio by June.  They could release the standard, Pro, and Max versions right now, but they're probably waiting until they can build up an inventory of Ultra chips so they can release all of the models at the same time

  • M3 Ultra could have up to 80 graphics cores

It seems certain that we’ll get an M3 Ultra.  If they weren’t going to do one, they probably would have already released an M3 Max Studio to go along with the laptops.

  • Apple insists 8GB unified memory equals 16GB regular RAM

Nonsense! Any personal computer these days should come with at least 16GB of RAM.

It really feels like foolish to buy a Mac Studio M2 Max/Ultra right now. An M2 Max system comes to $3800…and slower than the M3 14” MBP spec’ed above.
my guess would be the M3 studio line shows up when they can actually get the chip supply. the "missed opportunity" likely caused by the chips not being available in quantity yet. and something had to come out first.
Yesterday's announcement feels more like the death knell for the Studio. It always was a short-term product to cover up the lack of a Mac Pro. Now that an M3 Max can be put in a MacBook, it can be put in the Mini. The Studio should always have been Mini-sized. Only the top end Studio configurations justified the extra size and heat sinking - the lower-end Studios never did. The M3 range of Mac Minis will be coming out in a few months. They will embarrass the current Studio models, which I would expect to be quietly dropped.
It was never a short term product

I would agree that the current M2 Studio Pro is probably dead, but there WILL be M3 versions of Studio Max and Studio Ultra.
