Stop panicking about Apple's rumored switch from Intel to its own chips in the Mac
aaarrrgggh said:Depends on what is important to you. For me, it would be a nail in the coffin for Macs; interoperability is why Macs got beyond the 2% niche level. Design helped, but it would never have happened if you couldn't use the same laptop to run Windows or Linux/Unix.
I could likely survive with an A-Series processor for 95% of what I do, but the remaining 5% kills the value proposition as I end up needing an additional computer.
It was less than 3% worldwide reaching a bottom of about 2.3%.https://www.macworld.com/article/1002940/marketshare.html
And a major reason for the increase in Mac (Mac OS) sales was the transition to Intel processors. As stated by PCWorld / MacWorld in 2006 when Mac marketshare got back up to 5%.
“The growth is an excellent sign of the success of Apple’s transition to Intel based systems.”

Compared: 2018 iPad with Apple Pencil support vs 2017 iPad and iPad Air 2
I could see upgrading an iPad Air 1 which has only 1 GB of RAM which limits multitasking. (Earlier models have even more multitasking limits.)
But the iPad Air 2 and 2017 iPad have 2 GB of RAM, (the same as the 2018 iPad) and I wouldn't upgrade from those devices (unless the Apple Pencil is crucial).
In real world tests, I don't imagine the Air 2, 2017 & 2018 to be significantly different in using apps.
- Benchmark scores alone don't tell the full performance story imo. -

Watch: iPhone X vs. Galaxy S9+ cameras compared
StrangeDays said:k2kw said:Two positive reviews/comparisons of the Samsung Galaxy S9+ means an anti-Samsung editorial is coming from DED.
- But when a journalist dares to defend Apple and criticize the competition, for those who trash Apple it is like their world view has been attacked.
- Not a strawman argument on my part; I can produce multiple examples of irrational hate towards Apple on the web and an intolerance of any rebuttal. -

This means while 3 new iPhones with FaceID and sizes coming out in September; Not going to happen but hope Apple keeps iPhone 8S and 8S Plus with top/bottom area shrinked(more screen,edge-to-edge) and possibly TouchID on back. To hide camera/sensors; every phone will have either top Notch or Top long bar. If Apple wants to shrink or getting rid of Notch in 2019 than more power to them.
