Early iPhone X video roundups examine build quality, Animoji, gestures
cpsro said:Not even counting the notch and rounded corners, which remove even more display area, the X has a slightly smaller display area than previous Plus phones, despite the X having a longer diagonal measure. This is because the horizontal:vertical aspect ratios are different between the designs.
IMHO: nothing yet beats the look, feel and probably resilience (aside from scuffing) of the Space Black 7 series. It's Darth Vader morphed into a smart phone.
But for the home page and many apps you would be wrong.
1. The notch is part of the top information bar in iOS so, it saves screen space for most uses of iOS, like looking at AppleInsider in a browser.
2. Below the iOS information bar, in terms of vertical space (which is very useful in a phone), the iPhone X should be about equal to the Plus for many apps and the home page. -
Apple sacks iPhone X engineer after daughter posts hands-on video to YouTube
apple jockey said:By my take, this incident will require a more nuanced second act by Apple in response to the public criticism they may well now be in for because of this father and daughters misjudgments.
An example of the double standard is where Tesla can fire hundreds of employees (and some of them claimed it was unfair).
The overall reaction on the web has been to support Tesla.
But to part of the public Apple is always wrong.
An Apple employee let his daughter not only use a preproduciton iPhone X but allowed her to post a video of it and release sensitive/confidential data to the public.
The reaction of those who strongly dislike Apple of course will be; Apple should not fire the guy even when the cause to do so is clear.

Apple sacks iPhone X engineer after daughter posts hands-on video to YouTube
AppleInsider said:
Apple's strict NDA policy is in place not only to ensure the security of proprietary technology, but also for employee safety...
The device in question was an internal development unit that carried sensitive information like employee QR codes, product codenames and internal software...
- Those company files/data can have very sensitive information including confidential code numbers (like Social Security #s).
* No one should ever be allowed to release certain sensitive/confidential information publicly on the internet.
* An employee (and I've been in these kinds of jobs) should always guard against having their kids use company computing devices which have confidential files/data.
* Someone who lets their kids play with company computer devices and post YouTube videos of sensitive data should be fired.
* As for this iPhone X situation, this employee is non union and he lives in California.
California is an at will hire state. Unless this employee had a special contract which prevented firing and overruled the NDA (which I doubt), then imo he would have a very weak case for wrongful termination.

Microsoft kills Kinect just as Apple dives into facial recognition with iPhone X Face ID
vonbrick said:Microsoft was the first major technology company (or first in line) who offered:- Touch interface tablet computing
- Monthly music subscriptions
- Smartphones
- and more...
Until Microsoft figures out how to design for and talk to consumers who automatically think MICROSOFT=WINDOWS, they can be the first to market with the coolest technology or gadget and still fail every time.
So, Microsoft's failure in this area is not about marketing but about connecting to the consumer with the right tech and then developing that tech into a trusted ecosystem.
* With the touch interface; Microsoft, Palm and Apple (Newton) in the 1990s/early 2000s got the UI wrong by pushing the pen interface.
- Jobs was right to promote the multi-finger touch UI which today dominates smaller device mobile computing, especially smartphones.
* With music subscriptions, Microsoft could not settle on a mobile ecosystem and stick with that.
The failure of the Zune, the Kin, the Microsoft Band, the repeated changes to the Windows Media player, the ending of Windows Mobile as well as Windows Phone 7 & 8 and now the entire Windows Phone line; all of those missteps mean there was zero momentum to build on Microsoft media software such as with a music service.
* Finally, the problem with the Kinect was that except for kids dancing games, the UI didn't work for a console. It was just a variation of the Sony EyeToy idea which also faded. Console users usually want to use game controllers.
Again with Kinect, Microsoft got the UI wrong.

How to fix problems with iOS 11 on your iPhone or iPad
Here is what I do for my family's several older iOS devices and iOS 11.
* I wait before upgrading. I've done this for years when a new version of iOS is released.
- Then I check out websites for the new iOS version's problems.
When these issues are resolved by Apple, I upgrade.
- Also, with an older device that's having trouble on iOS 11, consider going back to iOS 10, if that's an option.
- Of course this doesn't apply to new iOS devices like the iPhone 8 which have to run iOS 11.
