Apple turns off data protection in the UK rather than comply with backdoor mandate
The UK is not a democracy, sadly. UK governments though voted in by the public do very little for the public. Most elected politicians have no knowledge of the role they are taking on, many have never actually worked. They, therefore, have an idea and expect the civil service to put that idea into practice. A lot of the ideas are simply vanity projects and even those which aren’t are not usually based on proper research. The result is a load of completely un-thought through nonsense, on which vast amounts of tax-payers money is wasted. Not only that but most money which is spent goes to the already wealthy, the same people as the politicians and their elite clique.
The elite absolutely do not want end to end encryption because it’s hampers their ability to control the population and, preferably, keep it in a state of constant fear. -

US senators question big tech, including Apple, on the reason behind inauguration donation...
The donations are plainly to buy favours. With Trump being deeply unpleasant, unpredictable and dishonest, it is unsurprising everyone wants to curry favour, whether they are leaders of countries or leaders of businesses. It’s utterly disgusting but that is the world the West has created. Everyone, with Trump as president, is in for a very unpleasant time.
As for MAGA, the US never was, so it can’t be again and won’t be this time, except in Trump’s and his followers eyes. -
Meta CEO mocks Apple for 'sitting on' iPhone 20 years later despite doing the same with Fa...
leighr said:The end of so called “fact checkers” is a welcome relief for true free speech. When one person, or group, has the power to decide what is ‘true’ or not, we are all in trouble. See exhibit one: China, or even worse, North Korea. We all need to fight against this sort of abuse of money and power, and while I am not a huge Facebook fan, I’m glad that they are following X’s lead in allowing free speech. -
iOS 18.1 with the first wave of Apple Intelligence features is out now
It would be great if the tech companies could just get the basics to work, before embarking on all sorts of fancy nonsense.
During the last week, almost every aspect of my home IT has failed to work at some point. I spend huge sums on having the best quality tech available but data has repeatedly failed, as has wifi, all manner of apps (mail, internet, banking, phone, messaging, maps and other ones have not worked at some time or other. I am not suggesting for one moment this is Apple’s fault; my data provider has had problems for several days as has been confirmed by friends and colleagues who have experienced the same things.
it does mean the basics need to work.
