  • Sensor-shift photo stabilization arriving on entire 'iPhone 13 Pro' range, report claims

Here is a sample gallery for the interested: https://www.dpreview.com/sample-galleries/0254203128/apple-iphone-12-sample-gallery/1889281334

In particular the 12 UW lens as reported seems improved in some areas, with (to these eyes) room to improve peripheral sharpness further (admittedly challenging for UW) as compared to the seemingly very sharp 'main' WA lens...

I noted UW softness and video cropping testing iPhone 11, the latter presumed relating to image stabilization, which conceptually I ask if it is more applicable to longer focal lengths ?  The 11 UW video cropping in particular seemed patently significant, unsure why it is rarely discussed in reviews, and can apparently be reduced using 3rd party imaging apps ?

Will lucky 13 check all the boxes...?

  • Final Cut Pro trademark hints at possible subscription offering

Regardless of the benefits for Apple, the fact is I must look after my own pocket book first and foremost.  If Apple ever does switch my beloved FCPX to a dreadful subscription model, I will try to get the most use out of the FCPX version I have but then ultimately switch to DaVinci Resolve.  I've never used Resolve, but I do see a lot of Mac video editors moving to it, especially because the developer has made it about as fast as FCPX.  The free version seems pretty good, but I shoot in 10-bit 4K so I would need the pay version for that.
Resolve, like Blender, Libreoffice, Libreproject and so many other open source and shareware also runs in linux...
I expect a subscription strategy (excuse?) may be a part of the move to ARM, and fear it may be yet another brick in the wall for many...

  • Belkin plans AirPlay 2-enabled audio adapter

When I heard the last generation of Airport Express was going to support AirPlay 2, I snatched up multiple refurbished units for my home, so glad that I did, they are so helpful to transform old audio equipment (which sound fine) into streaming devices and to allow old non-wifi printers to be used on your network.

It amazes me that no one has come up with a replacement.  This is good news.
I am disappointed Apple cancelled the Airport product line...

I have both vintage audio and audiophile gear as old as the 80's that still works wonderfully and are arguably superior to the proprietary offerings that manufacturers seem to focus on of late, presumably as a profit strategy, and also have found wifi and bluetooth unfortunately inconsistent in terms of function, even within the Apple Airport Express ecosystem.

Additionally all these proprietary offerings end up reliant on software and support, which is obviously problematic from any number of perspectives, as will be Belkin with what seems much more limited functionality at a higher price than Airport Express...

  • Smaller Mac Pro, 2021 iMac redesign with color options shown off by prolific leaker

I look forward to a chinless option...  It did seem odd to have a 27" iMac and 27" Apple display at different heights. I remember reading about the elegant refinements in the iMac design including the tapering of the stand towards the user, and hopefully such things still matter @ Apple... I would expect the un-tapered stand and monitor are more 'efficient' to produce...?

  • Apple may have a solution for fraying Lightning cables

Heat shrink tubing can effect a makeshift repair - I've even had a Thunderbolt monitor cable split (you don't want to know how much they cost) also requiring monitor disassembly for replacement and suspecting heat from a mini vent having a degrading effect...
