Apple's Mac mini is the little Mac that could, 15 years later
2011 mini:
i7 (hyperthreaded)
gpu (discrete, 4K/2x TB 27" support)
slotted ram (upgradable, non OEM)
slotted twin drive bays (upgradable, non OEM)
clear anodized AL (more wear resistant/sustainable)Upgrade speed/cores/specs on this form factor and my wallet will happily open again...
Please... What am I missing, except maybe a Kensington lock slot ??? -
Apple researching HomePod-like audio for future MacBook Pro
...having just been through the exercise of 'Smart TV' and how proprietary such has become I keep hoping AirPlay2 will offer true decoding for surround sound via wifi & bluetooth, perhaps even ATMOS. I too have discrete analog audiophile equipment (cubes) connected with Airport Express that may be tough to better with anything soundbar, not to mention the environmental and cost aspects of replacing perfectly functional gear... I continue to hope Apple may resurrect Airport and Time Capsule too, sigh... -
Pro Display XDR works on iMac Pro at 5K, not 6K

How and why does this happen...? -

The 4K Rez of this monitor isn’t anything near ultra high. I don’t know why that term was used. Even the 6k of the new Apple pro monitor doesn’t qualify as being ultra high. With 8k Tvs coming out now, even that barely qualifies these days.
the price is good enough for what it is. Not sure it qualifies to be equivalent to the real pro monitors out there though. They’re about 50% more, and up
PC monitors aren't more than 4k because Windows would look too small on a 27", so you just don't get non-Apple designed 5k 27" monitors, there were a couple of attempts but the Dell one needed 2 cables and the Iiyama suffered from many dead pixels. On Windows 4k is "ultra-high" because it's the highest you can get.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra-high-definition_television#Technical_details

Editorial: Pro Display XDR and Apple's Grand Stand
Or to put it another way, “Hell hath no fury like a faux nerd scorned.”
I really struggle trying to understand the internal dialogue of these people, who’s only purpose is to complain about every possible solution to their supposed problem. If he’s using a 10 year old machine currently all of his problems are entirely in his head, even the 5K iMac (or new mini as you said) would solve his computing problems.
Apple doesn’t cater to DIY hobbyists, nor have they ever. Jobs hated slots:

...these dudes need to find a solution that works for them (PCs) or admit they’ve just want to martyr themselves publicly.
