  • FCC net neutrality protections to expire on Apr. 23 without intervention

I think this measure will have its intended positive effects in the form of encouraging private investment in infrastructure—especially in rural areas.

It may not happen soon enough, but it will happen.

  • Apple adds 22 more banks to list of institutions supporting Apple Pay

It's not the Banks- it is the lack of Merchant embrace which is keeping this thing from soaring in utilization.  Invest a couple Million & give the reader away so it catches on.
Hardware is not the issue. It’s the larger chains purposely deciding not to accept these payments.
That and lack of awareness.  I can’t even tell you how many small places I’ve found that accept it and the people running the register are amazed to see it work because they didn’t know it existed.  Then they say something like, “I wonder if I can do that with my phone.” as they pull out an iPhone 6s. Then I explain it will work but they need to set up Apple Pay first and so on and so forth.  If people have phones that are capable of contactless payments but don’t even know it then there is little reason for retailers to be updating their hardware and promoting it.
I went to my cleaners today to pick up my order and asked the girl if they accepted Apple Pay. "Huh? What's Apple Pay?" Not surprising.

But then I looked her terminal and noticed the "Veriphone" logo and then noticed the small lights in a row above the display. That usually means the terminal takes contactless cards and devices. Sometimes they have to know what to do on their end to set up  such a transaction, but it's worked more often than not for me.

I use my Apple Watch far more often than my iPhone.

  • Apple Park now Apple's official corporate address

Despite the fact that nothing earthly is ever infinite, there was something bold and resonant about “1 Infinite Loop”.

    That address will be missed.
The circle is also bold and resonant, and embodied in the building itself. The circle is also a more classic (and ancient) symbol of "endlessness" than a computer program's "infinite loop". So, we have an even bolder statement for the future of Apple in the architecture of Apple Park!

  • Director Steven Soderbergh calls shooting on Apple's iPhone a 'gamechanger,' wants to use ...

I'm surprised that Soderbergh would describe the experience as "liberating." To me it would be "restrictive" having only one lens, no time code, and having to override all the automatic settings.

But he's a famous movie director and I'm just some putz, so I'm gonna assume there are benefits I'm not recognizing.

I believe Filmic Pro embeds timecode into the clip data. I may be mistaken on this.
I found this article which mentions time code: http://www.idownloadblog.com/2017/10/12/filmic-pro-hevc-shooting/

  • New 30% U.S. tax on solar cells threatens jobs, Apple's renewable energy efforts

Apple just made a killing on repatriation of its overseas hoard of cash, care of Trump.  Now they have to pay a bit more for their virtue signalling and gesture crap on solar panels, ( I mean has anyone really done the numbers in sunk energy associated with producing and installing solar panels, and please don't get me started on wind power, the carbon contribution of making, installing and maintaining those monsters- literally they are 'monsters' - is never recovered).

    It's called swings and roundabouts.

    Suck it up Apple !
It’s actually called yet another anti-Trump, obviously biased DED essay! One important plank of our President’s campaign was BALANCED TRADE with China. So this is another example of a promise kept. I didn’t see DED mentioning anything about this tariff being an opportunity for the US to start developing ITS solar manufacturing—which it is!
