HomePod preorders begin via Apple, smart speaker arrives Feb. 9

They'll start coming out today. Here's two...
Digital Trends - Apple's HomePod delivers on brilliant sound, but Siri still has room to grow
Refinery29 - One Hour With Apple's New HomePod
As for the speaker vs AI issue, it seems clear that, just based on the design, HomePod is going to be heads and shoulders above any of the competition as a speaker. However, if Siri is pissing you off, you're going to want to throw that amazing speaker through the window.
As an Apple-only consumer, Siri has been endlessly frustrating for me. I hope that changes soon. In the meantime, maybe I should get some epoxy, just in case, to keep my HomePod from from flying out my window after it arrives on 2/9.

Everything Apple has promised to add to HomePod in future updates
Apple needs to get some positive HomePod reviews out there fast. This is a sample of what I’m currently seeing on Twitter:Nothing about the HomePod release shows Apple’s confidence in it, which makes it hard for any of us to get excited about it.@djgeoffe For me, the value prop is non-existent. Siri doesn't have the ecosystem or willingness to spy on you to be smart enough. And it wont work with third-party music services. A Sonos One is cheaper and works with Alexa and also works with the sonos app for apple music, spotify, etcLast HomePod thought for now: the price is why it will fail. You can have a feature-limited, inexpensive product. You can have a feature-rich, expensive product. It is very difficult to find success in an established market when you are both overpriced and under-featured.HomePod is only mysterious if you’re still hoping it has secret features Apple hasn’t announced; reality is it’s just a straightforward, ‘boring’ product that does just what it says on the marketing page (and, 8 months later, still unable to ship with all features advertised)If HomePod were a mesh-network AirPort replacement, I would be all over it. As it is, it's just another outlet-taker-upper, and I've run out of outlets 😂On the HomePod audio point, lots of products and services tried to sell on sound quality alone and none sold in high volume. MP3s confirmed to us consumers are fine with good enough audio. The value has to be in Siri/personal assistant for Apple’s long term strategic ambitions. -
iOS 11.3 coming this spring with battery and performance settings, ARKit 1.5, new Animoji
dysamoria said:What about bug fixes and performance improvements?
Do people actually care about animoji?
I'm glad the CPU throttling/battery thing is being handled. This is how it should've been done on day one of that "feature" (which was, of course, just a way for Apple to avoid replacing batteries under warranty). Seems the only way to get Apple to do what's best for their customers is to shame Apple into doing it via media circuses. Typical corporate arrogance.
