  • Veteran designer Christopher Stringer leaves Apple after 21 years

    Good News IMO.

The current design team has been stale and the designs lack luster.

Look at the iPhone7. Lackluster. Massive bezels. Ugh.

The Watch is a decent design. But nothing that says elite and classy. IMO the non-symetrical design of the digital crown is ugly. Should be 4 or 2 symetrical buttons instead.

The Airpods are not what you would call beautiful design. iPad has been unchanged for 3 years. AppleTV is ugh, and the remote is HORRIBLE. Apple Pencil is nice but charging it in the iPad lightning jack? Or charging the Magic Mouse on its back?

Seriously WTF.  Design the last 3 years has been terrible to say the least.

IMO, the only nice design was the Macbook and Macbook Pro.

Regardless its pretty obvious Apple needs to new blood in the design team that is hungry and willing to take risks.
This is such bullshit. The iPhone 7 didn't retain bezels because Jony Ive's design team is out of ideas. There's a fuck ton of engineering that goes into a decision like that, especially with something like the home button which you don't just throw away because the tech press decided smaller bezels are the in thing. The Magic Mouse isn't supposed to be plugged in while using it. A 2 hour charge lasts over a month. Charge the thing while you're asleep and don't worry about it. And in the time it takes to make a cup of coffee you can have it charged for a whole day. A complete non-issue imo. Same with the Apple Pencil. It comes with a charging adapter. Charging it via the iPad is for when you need a quick top off and as an iPad Pro and Pencil owner I love that I can just stick it in the lightening port when I need a quick charge.

What I want in iOS 11 is icons for certain categories of apps that change automatically and within very strict guidelines: clocks, calendars, weather and timers, to start with. What I do not want is iOS to turn into the mess that is Windows Phone. Gruber kind of likes Win Phone (or whatever it's called) but I think it's a royal-mess. And as horrible as Android is compared to iOS design-wise, it's far nicer than Windows Phone to look at and more crucially, to use. An obvious careful evolution of the home screen are analog or digital clocks that tick (move), calendars with the correct date, timers who show the remaining minutes and a bog-standard weather summery of rain or sunshine or thunder and temperature on weather-app icons, for your location or choice (or current location).
After 10 years, I'm still waiting for Apple's weather app to include the basic temperature for the local weather. Did that get added in the latest update? I haven't had time to backup and update yet ...

its crazy really, I've had a sweeping second hand on the app icon, which is completely useless, but no temperature on the weather app ... Something I could really use.
I use an app called Fahrenheit because it displays the temperature in the red notification bubble.

  • Rumor: Siri to get iMessage integration, adapt to user habits in 'iOS 11'

I thought Siri already had sequential inference? I know Rene Richie has talked about it on podcasts before.

  • Developer alleges spotting new Apple TV model, unannounced 'tvOS 11' in use logs

Apple didn't put 4K in the TV 4 so that was the right decision around here. TV 5 most likely will have 4K and that will be supported here. Basically anything Apple does is the right decision and shouldn't be criticized.

  • Apple captured 540% the profits of Samsung Mobile in 2016 as China's phone makers battled ...

I don't remember Apple fans/customers being so obsessed with how much profit the company was making in the past. Why is that so important now?
