  • Apple hits $1 trillion market cap, the first US company ever to hit milestone [u]

Apple is the first US company with $1T valuation, and second worldwide, behind PetroChina.

Did PetroChina legitimately get to 1T? Is it even a publicly traded company?
It happened on their first day of their IPO during a spike. It wasn't sustained (a blip), they certainly didn't close that day anywhere near $1T USD, and have been far from it ever since. That's why I don't count this spike as a milestone for Apple until it's sustained, which at least means closing the market with a $1T market cap.

  • Apple Watch keeps spotting cardiac issues and saving lives, this time in Australia

I'd like to share a tip to my older friends. i'm 55 and wear my watch throughout the night and charge in the afternoon. Before the alarms, I was able to notice irregular heart rates (via health app)  while sleeping and I tracked this info over a period of two months before going to the doctor's. The doc ran tests and X-rays to learn that I had a hiatal hernia which was sending acid reflux back and swelled my thyroid which impacted my heart rate. With a change to my diet (how much I eat at one time) and an acid pill once a week, my heart rate is back to normal.
Use at night for a better view of your resting heart rate.
Do you also use a sleep app? I use an app called Sleep Watch, but there are free options out there.

THIS. This is just one great reason why I always suggest Apple increase battery life to 2 days at least. but people get offended and say "who needs it while you sleep! All day his enough!

My reason is for sleep tracking. I have a hard time sleeping and sometimes feel I'm half asleep and not fully asleep. This could help us and researches so much!!
My Watch lasts more than 2 days already.  I charge when I take a shower and get ready each day so I've rarely ever gone below 50% by the time I put it on the charger. I don't need it using cellular, WiFI, or Bluetooth whilst sleeping so I put it on Airplane Mode and in DND Mode so that raise to wake is disabled which means it barely uses any power at night.

  • Apple Pay to arrive in Germany, CVS and 7-11 later this year

I can't wait for Apple Pay to come here to Germany.  It is one of the few valid examples I can point to when I tell people that moving to Germany was, in some respects, like moving back in time.  That is not always bad, because "progress" (in the sense of modernization) is not unequivocally good.  A slower pace of life definitely has up sides as well. Payment is one area that I really miss the "progress" of the US because it is a mundane task that can and has been improved dramatically.

On a trip 2 years ago to the US I drove thru a Starbucks, ordered, stuck my arm out the window, and payed with ApplePay on my watch.  That is nearly an unfathomable scenario here. I just hope Sparkasse is an "early" adopter so that I don't have to change banks.
    1) The US isn't nearly as advanced as other EU countries where just getting Apple Pay support in the country means that nearly all places accept it by default because NFC-based payments have been available for years, but Germany really seems like stepping back in time; not just a few years before NFC-based payments, but decades before CC and debit cards were commonplace. What is the reason for this?

    2) Even better is using the Starbucks app to order ahead (which still allows you to use Apple Pay in the app, as many iOS apps allow), and then just walk in to pick it up. No barista writing your order on the cup which they may get wrong, no having some incorrect spelling of your name, and no waiting in line. Even if you're going inside the store to sit it's great to use the app because your order gets printed out on a sticker that goes on the cup ahead of everyone else in line, including the person that is currently ordering.

McDonald's and other restaurants offer similar options now with apps. McDonald's app is nice because there are always decent deals to be had so you not only save time but can save money. For example, $3 off a $10 or more order is easy to do with two people on a road trip. They'll even bring it out to your car.

  • Apple reports best June quarter ever with $53.3B in revenue on 41.3M iPhone sales

Brilliant performance. Kudos to Cook and team.

    AAPL a mere $25B from $1 trillion.
By my count, about $13 billion away from the $1 trillion milestone in after-hours trading with a 3.18% gain as of this post.

edit: $994 billion  as of this edit.

    edit2: Now it's only $486 million away.

  • Review: The 2018 MacBook Pro with i9 processor is the fastest laptop Apple has ever made, ...

    1) Thanks for doing a comparison of MagSafe v USB-C. That lines up with my anecdotal experience. I still can't understand why after decades of bellyaching about Apple using proprietary, unlicensed connection options that when Apple finally adopts one because it is inherently better that people still complain.

I would like to note that this will get buried in this review. May I suggest that you do a separate article detailing both MagSafe designs, USB-C (with Apple and 3rd-party cables), and the deep barrel connector they used prior. I'd also like to proffer that you use a pull force gauge so you can get accurate measurements that can be put into a chart.

    2) Is the keyboard heating up because of the i9 under max load and/or the RAM? IOW, if you got the entry-level 15" MBP but with 32 GiB DDR4 RAM would you still have that same issue (i.e.: an issue for the entire 2018 15" MBP line in any configuration), mostly an issue with the Intel i9, or an issue with the i9 under load for extended periods of time (like when running benchmarks)?

    3) Were you able to do any battery tests to see if the 2018 15" MBP with the larger battery was indeed inline with the 2017 15" MBP under the same load? I can imagine that under load the 2018 models may reduce their time more than the 2017 with the smaller battery, but if you can get more work done then it could offset that loss.

    4) Since they kept the weight the same YoY while increasing the battery capacity (which one report shows that it's both larger and heavier than last year's battery—so it's not lighter battery tech) I assume they milled the top chassis even more to lose the weight and make the space. Since this makes up the structure of the MBP did you find this to be less durable, dissipate heat worse/better since it also acts as a heatsink, or any other potential problems with removing several ounces of aluminium from the frame? If not, have they really been wasting all metal and adding unneeded weight all these years, or do you think that they've engineered something stronger (like they did with the iPhone S series over the iPhone 6 series after Bendghazi)?
