  • NSO Group employee allegedly stole, attempted to sell 'Pegasus' iOS malware for $50M

So he's smart enough to become a senior programmer at a firm that focuses on hacking OSes but he's not smart enough to not use his own computer, to use a browser that records his history, or to use Google search. I bet he never used a VPN or makes his MAC address either.

PS: If you use a browser like Tor it'll inform you that going fullscreen can get help determine your computer type because JS will determine your display resolution so if you really want to be clever and you're using a laptop (preferably running a flavor of Linux) you should attach of some old monitor to run the web browser on that display to be obfuscate any source even further which you can then discard.

  • Apple issues third developer betas for iOS 12, tvOS 12, watchOS 5 [u]

I'm running the public beta of iOS 12 on my iPad Pro, am having a little weirdness when trying to reply to posts on AI forums in Safari -- when the keyboard slides up the web content above it fails to slide up, so the keyboard covers the text input box and you can't see what you're typing. Anybody else see this?
Yep, but on iOS 12 developer beta 1 and 2 for iPhone. I haven't tried it for beta 3 yet.

My workaround is to hit the return a couple times so I can then slide the browser window up far enough to see what I'm typing and then remove the extra returns when I'm done.

edit: I only did a quick test of iOS 12 beta 3 for iPhone but the issue didn't present itself.

  • Here are all the Apple Pay banks added during 2018 and 2019

Any clue when Apple Pay is coming to Germany?
It'll happen, but I wouldn't hold your breath. Unlike other countries where they just need to add banks that support it, Germany's culture will need to affect change so that vendors want to accept it (which I'm sure you know). This always struck me as odd since NFC-basd payments seemed more efficient to use.

  • The story of the original iPhone, that nobody thought was possible

The first generation (first released model) iPhone was only available in 4GB or 8GB.  The refreshed model the following year in early 2008 was bumped up to 8GB or 16GB and the 4GB model was dropped.  EDGE was slower than the relatively new 3G network, but I would not call it unreliable.  Like any network, it was reliable if you had a good signal.  I never had any issues in Los Angeles.
If it were a different model, I would agree with you. https://support.apple.com/en-us/ht201296 Even Apple states that it came in 4, 8 and 16GB versions.
It did, but not out of the gate. It was 4 and 8 GB at launch for $499 and $599, respectively. Then on 05 Sept 2007 they dropped the 4 GB model from the lineup, reduced the price of the 8 GB model to $399, and gave all previous iPhone buyers a $100 refund (as I recall). Then on 05 Feb, 2008 (8 months after the initial launch) they added a 16 GB model at the original price of the 4 GB model at $499.

  • Apple cutting off payment source changes for older versions of iOS, macOS & Apple TV

So Windows 7, which was first released in 2009 and lost mainstream support in 2015, still gets extended support from Microsoft and Apple iTunes. Hmmm…
If Apple is still willing to support iTunes on Win7 I would assume that it's because there's still a substantial number of iTunes users on that platform. I have no numbers but I'd assume that Win7 with iTunes installed would outnumber all versions of macOS in use today.
