  • Developer says Apple rejected update for not forcing auto-billing on users

The reason you see a lot of people defending Apple in these situations isn’t because they’re share holders or fanatics.
It is because running to the press with a victim story is suspicious as fk.
Never once has the developer truly represented their grievance fairly or accurately.

Instead it’s been either an attempt to secure better terms, gain attention to their app or the arrogance of minimising the work they have to do to receive approval.

There is also an amount of commonsense  required: out of the thousands of apps that Apple review and process every week, is the huge multinational trying to deliberately harm some tiny, unknown developer for their unimportant app or is there some kind of misunderstanding going on? In the past, Apple’s motivations have aligned with the objective of protecting the store’s users from garbage apps. That includes apps which automatically lose their functions, apps shouldn’t quietly break themselves.

So no, I don’t blindly hop onto the “AppStore is evil”-train that some people are trying to AstroTurf out there. I also won’t be surprised if Apple again releases the full rejection letter which tells a much different story.

  • Apple has reportedly solved the AirPower overheating problem

The photos are possibly(read likely) fake - review the reply tweets.

    - The image where the devices aren't charging is a lightning cable
    - The image where the devices are charging is not the same cable, or anything like Apple's cables
    - There are various AirPower knock off devices, such as the one pictured below.

  • Judge tosses copyright suit against Apple and M. Night Shyamalan

    The plaintiff's original claim was so absurd that it's like they never even saw Servant. The only similarity between the two is that it involves the concept of living doll. Which by the way it not an entirely original thought either. The idea of haunted or living dolls is so unoriginal that it's Biblical, literally: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golem ;

I don't even think MNS took inspiration - they're just not similar stories at all. Copyright is a serious matter and if there is any fact to the matter it would be considered more deeply.

  • European countries form coalition over contact tracing app concerns

I think something that isn't stated enough: These custom apps perform poorly on iPhones because the government and developers never once bothered to approach this competently. Instead these various countries have gone about making their dream apps only to realise, low and behold, that the OS does not allow such usage for security, battery and privacy reasons. This wasn't a surprise to the industry - Apple isn't quiet about their efforts here.

What incredible arrogance is on display here: building an app and hoping Apple/Google will rush a patch to make the app work as intended. Worse is then to criticise these tech companies for not capitulating, when a better set of frameworks are available for their use.

  • France shames Apple for not sacrificing user privacy for COVID-19 app

Considering how much money France has sought from technology companies with relation to user privacy, I would not be surprised if this request is never granted.

It’s stupid to design an app that won’t work on the OS until the OS makes special and compromising allowances for it to run. (All while disregarding the better option being provided by the vendor.)

Edit: I should add: A global response should not involve custom apps from each country.
Europe is highly connected, France alone borders 8 countries, and has direct trains to each and the UK, plus flights to a great many more. The idea that individuals passing through each region will need to download a custom app is utterly absurd, and arrogant to the reality of how the virus spread from country to country.
