  • Satechi Thunderbolt 4 Dock review: A compact port extender for Mac

Really like Satechi in general,  but if this has no hdmi it is no sale for me.

    Exactly,
I ordered one of these without looking too deeply into the specs as I have always had great service from the things they sell, when it arrived I was surprised that it lacked an HDMI port. I connected it to my 14” MBP (ARM) and the device does not show up on my system profile when in clamshell mode nor does it pass audio - and I use a USB audio connection for my speakers.

When I contacted them regarding the lack of an HDMI connector I got a rather snarky and dismissive reply. I would suggest that they listen to their customers better - especially repeat customers. The lack of an HDMII port is a design flaw - at this price point I should not have to buy a third party cable to make it work with a very commonly used display connection.

Sending it back for a refund.

Sending it back is your prerogative, obviously, but a USB-C to HDMI cable is about $8, and should fix your issues, including not showing up in the system profile when the lid is closed.

  • SanDisk Professional G-Drive review: Fast enterprise-grade external hard drive for your Ma...

It should have a Thunderbolt 4 connector.
Why? 10gbit USB 3.2 type C is more than enough for a 250 megabyte per second hard drive.

  • Adding water cooling to the Mac Studio does surprisingly little

It would be nice, in the article and in the video, to be clear about whether the Mac Studios are M1 Max or M1 Ultra, since the M1 Ultra have a much beefier cooling system/
I think the video is about M1 Max, which is the least relevant comparison.
    Paragraph two.

"In a YouTube video posted on Monday, an attempt was made to install a water cooling system on Apple's Mac Studio with a M1 Max processor."

The M1 Ultra core temps are often lower under load than the Max is. The Max is the hotter of the two, because of that cooling system choice.

  • More USB-C speed won't fix users' problems with cables

"I've purchased a cable tester and identifier to be sure that what I've bought"

What exact cable tester do you use and own?
I tried a couple of early all-in-ones, and they weren't reliable or consistent. For now, for day-to-day use I've settled on:

For charging testing and so forth. There are a few more that I'm looking at that break down things like data communication for fast charging and whatnot, and I'll get back to you when I've settled on one. My favorite of those so far is:

If you can't tell what bandwidth you're getting from your USB cable/device, you probably don't need to know.
You can tell what bandwidth or charging capacity a USB-C cable can handle just by looking at it coiled up on the floor? Nice trick.
