  • Apple releases $35 bi-directional Lightning to 3.5mm Audio Cable

This isn't new. It's existed since the Beats Solo Pro and is cheaper on Amazon.
This is a new SKU today. The old one wasn't bidirectional, AFAIK.

  • Apple's HomePod mini review: the speaker for the rest of us

Had hoped for something about the “intercom” function—the main reason I bought a pair. Wife and I are older and have the usual aged-related hearing loss. Tired of yelling “what?” from room to room. Hoping these little guys will be just the ticket.
Intercom isn't quite a full walkie-talkie. While I will confess that I do summon the children with it, as a reply to the summons is neither required nor desired, it doesn't do two-way communication well, and is basically passing a single line to the target room or device.

It works well for what it is. It doesn't really allow real-time communication or discussion.

  • Apple Silicon M1 Mac mini review - speed today and a promise of more later

No mention in the review on how many displays the new M1 Mac Mini can drive.

I have a 2012 Mac Mini which I’m ready to upgrade from, but it’s currently driving 2 Apple Thunderbolt displays via the single TB2 connector on that model. Works great and I’d like to retain the displays but understand the new model could only handle one of these which is a dealbreaker for me.

    Unless I’m wrong...?
    ?

FTA: "While faster, the GPU cannot handle as many monitors as its predecessor. The previous three-monitor capability has been limited down to two. Without external hardware solutions using the historically fragile DisplayMate drivers, you can connect up to a 6K screen using Thunderbolt and a single 4K screen via HDMI 2.0. "

  • M1 Mac mini can drive six displays with peripherals - but you shouldn't bother

I wonder how feasible this is to just add in a single 3rd display.  I typically use 3 displays. (My personal iMac 27" 5k has a 40" 4k and an old Apple Cinema 30" connected.  My work MBP has. 32" 4k and a 40" 4k plus the MBP built-in screen -- I se the two larger ones for day to day and the third for "notification" and "monitoring" apps or things that I reference directly only occasionally -- Slack, Apple music, etc.
Will Sidecar work for what you want it to do?

    Mike Wuerthele,

As an admin I am really disappointed in the one glaring omission from this review you folks did, not a single darn word was payed to the speed of the SSD in the M1 Mini, it is supposed to be twice as fast at over 3GBps vs the old one being in the 1500Gbps range, what you should at bare minimum have done was run Black Magic Speetest to let us ignorant folks taste your prowess... pffft. I suggest someone get right on that and update the review! Truly a bad omission on your teams part!
Blackmagic isn't native yet. It will be added when it is. What I can say for sure is that the 256GB in the M1 mini is at least as fast as the 512GB Intel one is.
