  • Apple's new 'Help Me Choose' quiz helps users find the right Mac

I ran it here in Australia via the US site (I couldn’t find it on the /au website) and it got close to my current option, somewhat higher-end than what I’d chosen. The quiz results popped up a Mac Studio M2 Max with a small SSD, or an M2 MacBook Pro. My current choice is a tricked-up M3 or preferably M4 Mac mini, but as neither of those is currently available and the M3 is rumoured never to appear, it’s all somewhat moot. I found it interesting that my and Apple’s choices were reasonably close.

  • Siri is reborn in iOS 18 -- everything Apple's voice assistant will be able to do

I regularly ask Siri on my iPhone to set timers (“Hey Siri! Please set a timer for…”). When Siri has set it, I say “Thank you” - she responds by replying “No worries”, “You’re welcome”! “Don’t mention it”, “It’s a pleasure”, and a number of other responses. Ths has been happening for at least six months, and could well be earlier. And, this is also before the grand unveiling/release, so I’m very interested to see what’s going to emerge (given that pre-release claims are always just that).

I seriously need bold and underline. I use bold in BBM and WhatsApp and they really help understanding.
    And italics :)

  • Canadian firms finally get Tap to Pay on iPhone

No doubt this will never appear in Australia. The so-called ‘Big’ Four banks will see to that.

  • System Settings getting shuffled again in macOS 15, among other UI tweaks

I’m not a fan of the old or the current OSX/maOS System Preferences/Settings. Both look like a dog’s breakfast, as already described above.

Diverting somewhat to the subject of Safari, where’s the previously much-trumpeted ‘translate page’ menu choice in the address bar dropdown featured in the article gone? Deleted? Moved to somewhere harder to find/less logical/more annoying?
