  • Apple Studio Display runs iOS 15.4, which will allow it to fix webcam issues

Yeah despite Gruber's reporting of the build number, I would be very surprised if this display were running a full & complete iOS 15.4. Simply because it is incapable of using maybe 90% of it? Too many vulnerabilities to leave them all there, right? I would imagine it's a stripped down version.
Why are there "too many vulnerabilities"?  It's current iOS.  It has no apps or external network connectivity.  Why build a "special" version, when they can just use the "regular version?

There is still a strong need for a way to expand the SSD. A small slot in the back with the ability to insert and remove a M2 SSD module would do the trick nicely. Bonus points if it can be hot-swapped while the computer is on. SSDs are evolving rapidly in both speed and capacity. For a computer to have a 5 to 8 year life, you will want to upgrade the onboard storage. No external port, be it USB 4 or Thunderbolt, can get anywhere close to the speed of a M2 SSD. Even game consoles allow the SSD to be replaced with performance above 6 GB/s.
Such a "slot" already exists.  It's called an external drive.  :D  I am using a external 1tB SSD on my 2013 iMac, for example,  :p

Seriously, Apple has looked at what people actually use not what they say they want to use and designed the Mac accordingly.  So few people actually upgrade the internals that it just isn't worth the extra cost.

Never mind there are Intel Macs with SSDs (late-2010) working today with normal usage; that is 12 years. Heck my brother is using my 2007 iMac so the idea that a computer has a "a 5 to 8 year life" is nonsense.

As for the game consoles with replaceable SSDs those are specially designed slots where only the maker of the console's SSD will fit in the slot and so you will be paying a premium for that upgrade.
Actually that's not the case.  None of the internal/built-in SSDs on the latest consoles are replaceable.  Both the Microsoft XBOX & Sony PlayStation 5 have storage expansion slots.  Only the Microsoft XBOX has a proprietary slot.

The Sony PlayStation 5 has a regular, long, PCIe Gen 4 x 4 slot built-in.  You buy any standard NVMe drive that is fast enough (6MB/s I think is the requirement) and put it in - no premium price for the upgrade.  Sony does recommend (require?) a heatsink on the NVMe drive.  You can use what ever fits in the slot (there is a cover for the slot).  When you next power the PlayStation 5 on, it formats the drive & does a speed test, and reports the results.  Done.  I've upgraded 3 x PlayStation 5's, personally & used 3rd party heatsinks (not from the NVMe Mfg).  See Sony's documentation located here, for adding the storage:  How to add an M.2 SSD to a PS5 console

  • Rio Arc review: An elegant HomeKit-connected heater to keep you warm this winter

It's a nice looking device, but I wouldn't trust any space heater with "smart" controls.

Nearly all space heaters you buy include warnings not to run them unattended.  The ones in my home are unplugged when not in use.  Despite all of the latest safety features, I think the risk of fire, should something fail, is always going to be too high for me to leave a device plugged in 24x7, controllable by a remote app.

I also don't leave toasters or coffee makers or other small appliances with heaters plugged in when they're not in use.  They sometimes fail, and when they do, fires sometimes start.  There are news articles every year about fires that start because of faulty appliances or space heaters.  I really don't want to become the next such statistic.

    -------------

BTW, the article says that the 2000W unit isn't available yet.  I'm not surprised.  1500W is about the maximum you will ever find on a device designed to connect to a 15A circuit (15A * 120V = 1800W, and manufacturers always leave a margin, because there are always other devices plugged in to the same circuit).

A 2000W unit will draw a minimum of 16.7A on a 120V circuit.  We can expect that if they release such a device, it will require a 20A and/or a 240V circuit (much like room air conditioner units typically require).  For most houses, this will mean an electrician will need to run a new circuit from the service panel.
You do realize this is sold outside the US market, and not all markets use 120V, right?  The article even states that it was originally only available outside the US (hence the display on the unit in Celsius)...

  • Hands on with the new features in iOS 15.2

So how does an app like Trainline connect to domains (e.g. www.paypalobjects.com) when it’s not been launched since boot and I’ve not used the app and background app refresh is turned off?
So has nobody else explored the Privacy Report? I'm surprised that apps are active in the background even though they have never been launched. Is this the new iOS order, can apps run persistently now?
Even though there might be a reference to "background", the "app" is not running in the background.  It has "hooks" that tell the OS to wake up a small part of the app, to update network, content, etc.  There are 4 or 5 (I don't remember exactly) reasons/ways an app can hook into the OS to be woken up on events (new message received, new e-mail received, etc.).  One of them is for background music play for 3rd party apps, etc.

But the full app is not running and the background, and the "hooked" part is not running all the time - only when it's "hook" is triggered, and even then for a limited time.

It's become obvious that a lot of the general population is incapable of deciding what is real and what is fake...
And you'll be our savior to rescue the general population from ourselves?

Ha!  No thanks.  The first thing tyrants do is seek to become the sole source of "truth".  Thanks for outing yourself.
W(here)TF did you get that idea?  I never made any statements about what is real & what is fake, or wanting to be the "source of truth".  I have no desire to be involved with the general public or control anything or anyone.  Maybe you need to take your tinfoil hat off (based on your reply to my simple comment).

Just look at what's happened in the US alone, in the past few years.  Science, facts & common sense don't seem to apply anymore, to a lot of people.
