  • Tested: Mac Studio with M1 Max vs. Mac Studio with M1 Ultra

Does anyone else think that paying $400 for 32GB of RAM or $200 for 512GB of SSD space is a bit expensive? Like perhaps four times what the parts should cost? I guess we will just have to upgrade them our... oh snap!

No.  It's not "a bit expensive".  It's highway fucking robbery.

Even if it was reasonable NOW (it's not) it'll be absolutely outrageous in 2-3 years after purchase which is the point when most people realize there's not enough RAM or storage and upgrade.

The storage is the stupidest part.  The VAST majority of people don't know how much storage they'll need in the future when they buy a computer.  512GB is rarely enough.  And the only advantage of having the computer be a cute tiny little box is GONE when you've got to have an external box for the storage you'll need, the minuscule speed advantage of soldered storage is GONE when you're booting from that external box because the internal SSD is worn out.
You might want to actually do a 5 minutes of research before thinking you know what you're writing about.

The SSD in the Mac Studio is SOCKETED.  https://www.macrumors.com/2022/03/20/mac-studio-ssd-may-be-upgradeable/

It won't be long before someone (Apple or 3rd party) offers upgrades.

  • Transcend's JetDrive Lite 330 adds storage to the new MacBook Pro

What is the maximum speed on the SDXC slot on the new MacBooks?  This one is only 95/75.  Wondering if much faster cards could be used in that slot?

Update: The SD card slot on the new MacBook Pros supports up to 250MB/s of data transfer with UHS-II SD cards and up to 90MB/s with UHS-I SD cards, according to information shared by Apple after this story was published.

Is OneDrive available ONLY as part of Office365 or can you get it by itself?
At least on Windows PCs it's pre-installed. I assume it still has a basic free tier for macOS users like it had years ago when it debuted.

Of course, you could simply answer this question yourself with something called a "search of the Internet." I'm not going explain what that is nor do that for you. Neither should anyone else here.

I am happy to help people on the Internet with random tasks but one thing I balk on is to encourage them to be mindless, lazy slugs.

I hereby bow out of further discussion in this particular thread.

    Best of luck.
Did that and all I found was stuff talking about how well it worked with Office365.
Did you try the obvious?  Type "onedrive.com" in your browser?  The information you crave is one click in.

Interestingly, I typed your exact question you asked here into Google (copy/paste) and the top answer was:

"Start your secure access, sharing, and file storage with OneDrive today. You can get OneDrive by itself or with a Microsoft 365 subscription."

You prefer to have the power supply internal where the components would necessitate a thicker iMac not to mention the heat generated from the power supply inside your iMac?

There are so many advantages to having the power supply external and I, for one, like that the ethernet plugs into the brick instead of the back of the iMac.  One less cable cluttering my desktop.  If Apple could do the same with the MBP 14/16 brick through the Magsafe connector, that'd be cool!

Biggest advantage is the ease to replace the power brick should it fail.  If internal, you're screwed.
