  • BMW temporarily ships cars without Apple CarPlay

BMW has gimped its cars of a few features in the past year or so. Stripping CarPlay is an absolute deal breaker and I’d never buy anything based on a future promise again (ahem Ring and HomeKit)

My wife just got a 2022 X5 about five months ago and it came with Apple CarKey. I fell in love with the feature so much that I started shopping a BMW myself. Turns out that all the cars I was interested in had that feature deleted on the spec sheet (5 Series), presumably because of the chip shortage.

Another feature on BMWs that I remember I loved was soft close doors and it appears that’s also been removed from builds. My wife’s X5 didn’t even come with fog lights. Funny thing is, prices didn’t go down, they went up.

These are a few of the top of my head but there’s more.

    I’ll wait…

  • Apple warns developers it will pull apps without recent updates from the App Store

Ridiculous... I have an app that’s pretty much one of a kind and works really well. Hasn’t been updated in a while but why should it if it works?

Funny thing is, Apple always breaks a lot of things with their software updates .  iOS 15 has been a nightmare for HomeKit and especially Siri on the HomePod. That’s just one example.

No need to update for the sake of updating.

  • YouTube flip-flops back to picture-in-picture not coming to iOS 15

Im getting PIP for the YouTube app and it works great… and I also see there’s an update today for the app. That notification badge for the App Store is driving me nuts. What to do what to do lol.

  • Do not click links in text messages that come from your own phone number

Got one of these this morning for the first time. Thought it was an iMessage scam at first since it came from myself so I contacted Apple Support. They asked me where the link takes me.  I responded, ”I haven’t opened it.  You think it’s safe?”  Thank goodness they replied “no, don’t open it” lol.  Not like I was going to anyway…

  • Wanton in-app purchases cost Alberta father thousands of dollars

If your child is attached to your credit card and isn’t very responsible, no matter what age, then set up Screen Time for them. That simple.  I have two kids, aged six and seven. I set up Screen Time for both of them and they have to be approved by either me or my wife for any download via the App Store, free or paid.  If I gave them cart blanche, the amount of charges racked up on my credit card would be up there.  If the teenager has access to the father’s credit card, then either he gave her access or there is already some type of family sharing in play.
