    I can't think of one reason why I would want to buy this.
    I can't think of any reason that 'I' would need this based on the articles I've read, but let's not forget that we also don't know anything about the actual product. As always, I'll wait until Apple announces and demos a product before I make a determination (this also goes for established products).

  • If Apple TV+ abandons theatrical releases, it won't be because of money

    These are the current (silly) requirements for an academy award nomination:
    The new rules, which were passed and initially announced last year but are being put in effect for the 97th Academy Awards, will require a film to have a one-week qualifying run in six different metropolitan areas: Los Angeles County, New York City, the San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, Atlanta and Dallas-Fort Worth. Drive-in theaters will no longer count to qualify films.

    In addition, films that wish to compete in the Best Picture category must have an extended run of seven days (consecutive or nonconsecutive) in 10 of the top 50 U.S. markets, with those runs taking place no less than 45 days after their initial 2024 release.

  • A critical security issue in 1Password for Mac left credentials vulnerable to attack

    In a security post, 1Password has revealed the exact details of the vulnerability, and which application versions are susceptible to attacks.

    According to the company, all versions of 1Password for Mac before version 8.10.36 (July 2024) are vulnerable to the exploit. Thankfully, the issue can be resolved with relative ease by updating the 1Password application to version 8.10.36, which has already been made available.

    According to this company, this only affects iPassword 8 for Mac. That is an important distinction over the AI article. As someone who is still on version 9 because of all the missing features and wonky way of working in version 8 you had me scared that I was going to need to make a choice between security or utility. In that case I'm probably going to switch to a different solution because 1Password 8 for Mac sucks balls.

    I was also going to mention the notch. I don't hate the notch, but I hate that it's there for no purpose. If they want to shrink down FaceTime components into that thin lid then I'm all for them keeping the notch, but it's been years with no movement on that front.

    Maybe it is too late… but we must recognize that the pre-AI Siri was more of a Voice User Interface than an ‘assistant.’ With your keyboard and mouse you search and receive web info! (Web browsers only remember you thru tracking ads!)

    Now… or in a near futue… AI-Siri will become a real ‘assistant.’
    The best part is that it will preserve your privacy… like a real personal assistant. When your assistant does not know the answer… he/she/it will go to the library or the encyclopedia… well… to ChatGPT by now…
    Siri was using AI even before Apple bought it. It is a project developed by the SRI International Artificial Intelligence Center. Simply because the needle of what we expect from AI in the Real has moved considerably doesn't mean that AI wasn't being utilized.
