Trump gives Apple a giant break with wide-ranging tariff exemptions
mikethemartian said:DAalseth said:CheeseFreeze said:This ‘president’ is a disaster to the world. He has no real strategy, economists are baffled by his idiotic actions and constant flip-flopping.Even more so, his entire corrupt administration have clearly benefited from their own actions through insider trading. They belong in jail and their assets being taken. Unfortunately in the USA, the rich are untouchable. You can buy yourself out of the law there.
I find it interesting that around 30 years ago Star Trek invented the Ferengi, a completely corrupt, mercantile society whose morality was driven only by profit. They were created as a parody and a warning. Now we have someone with Ferengi sensibilities leading the US. What’s next, creating the Torment Nexus for fun and profit?

Trump gives Apple a giant break with wide-ranging tariff exemptions
libertyandfree said:Like I have repeatedly stated on this site and others, . Apple would not be harmed by these tariffs. It’s amazing how people still do not understand how Trump operates and what his intentions are even after him being president for 4+ years. Many view him as incompetent or corrupt and greedy but he is just following his America First policies and truly is trying to put America in a better position. Those suffering from TDS will never see this.
One of the rare occasions that Trump has been honest has been when he said he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and not lose a single vote. You are one of those people. You are probably one of those people that look at the turnout of his rallies and say, "clearly Trump has more votes," without the faintest comprehension that most people don't attend such things. That's probably why you still believe Trump won the election in 2020 that he clearly lost despite him trying to cheat... outside of him telling you that he actually won by more votes in human history.
Seriously, what crimes would it take for you to not to be on his side? You used to post about libertarianism ideals where you simply wanted smaller gov't that didn't interfere in our lives. It was always myopic because you failed to have a path for that outcome or see how things would cascade in negative ways as a result, but at least it had a focus on smaller gov't. Now it's simply your TDS where whatever that idiot says has to brilliant, even when he contradicts himself — sometimes mid-sentence — and when he's destroying the lives of the American people.
Enough with your jingoistic "America first" BS. You don't really believe that or you wouldn't be on board with countless people losing their livelihoods or people who are in the US legally being sent to a high security prison in a country they've never been to.
PS: Stop falling for this lie that the American people are being victimized by every other nation on earth (which is an oblate spheroid, BTW, not flat). That isn't to say that the American people aren't being wronged, but it's from within. But despite being the victim you still have a personal responsibility to not allow yourself to be victimized. Think of the people who fall for stupid phishing scams because they lacked the critical thinking and due diligence to not realize that bayareafastrak.org-pay.scam iisn't a valid website for San Franciso's FasTrak website. -
Trade war escalates: Trump hikes China tariffs to 125%, pauses others for 90 days
9secondkox2 said:canukstorm said:camber said:From the excellent article: "Trump cited a "lack of respect" from China" Let me get this straight. The schoolyard bully got called out, and he says that is disrespectful? He should hope he never finds out what disrespectful really is
very true. China has been bullying the usa on trade and us companies by stealing their ip and even controlling their data. We called them out, They panicked and tried to double down with the tariffs and are now in a tough spot. There is a lot of nuance being revealed. We’ll see how it goes but at least American companies are being looked after, whether with pauses or exemptions. If my family rents a house from a landlord and that landlord charges them an extra amount bevause we aren’t from that neighborhood, and that same landlord goes to my car dealership to lease a new vehicle, I’m going to Jack up his price too. What’s fair is fair. Now if he wants to stop being a bully and stop the ridiculous additional fees, then I’ll do the same. Equity and parity is all I wanted to begin with. -
Apple may be able to delay price increases, but not for long
aslam said:The top of the article says that prices would rise in the US and elsewhere. I’m struggling with rationalizing the “and elsewhere” part of it. I see how prices would have to rise for American consumers because tariffs would apply on products produced in China, but why would prices rise for those outside of the US? If I’m not mistaken, most of Apple’s product like iPads, Macs and iPhones are assembled in China with parts manufactured entirely outside the US. So that product, when sold to a Canadian or European, should cost the same as before, should it not? Canada hasn’t levied new tariffs on Chinese-made products or on parts from India, Taiwan, etc., so shouldn’t the price remain the same for Apple to produce the product in China and then sell it in Canada or Europe? Maybe I’m missing something or some element of the supply chain. Can someone elaborate on this for me?
Additionally, Apple is a US company so a tariff may be added to goods entering, say, Canada, despite the product having its finally assembly and shipping in China.
