  • Activists agitate for 'iPhone infinity' with AI-generated Tim Cook, promise protests

I don't see how much environment this can save. Our landfill is not full of used iPhones.

  • US spokesman behind on the news pours gas on seemingly settled China iPhone ban

Another US push for democracy! LOL One should keep in mind the National Security Council always has an ax to grind toward China. The better trustable source is the US State Department.

Well, the state department also strongly advises against travel to China, and many companies and universities have policies that if you must go, don't bring any electronic devices into or out of China, or if you do, wipe or even discard them upon your return.  Nearly everyone is diversifying manufacturing out of China as fast as they can, even Apple.  The cat's been out of the bag for a few years now (even before COVID) that China is NOT friendly to the West - everyone is pretty much on the same page about that now.
This travel advisory is most likely directed toward some people involved with politics. I saw a news yesterday. The Chinese court sentenced a Chinese American living in Houston, Texas for espionage. He has been a leader of China unification. This is a surprise. You should keep in mind in US there are many Chinese who are anti-CCP. Then there are Americans who try to assist them. One example is a Republican congressman.

  • Apple Watch Ultra 2 gains S9 chip, brighter screen, and new gesture

So the question here is always: What previous watch would you be at that might justify an upgrade to, for example, the new Series 9?

I mean last year's? No. Year-over-year updates for Watch or iPhone seem pretty silly these days. But how far back does it seem like "Eh, that's a pretty decent jump in features, functions, performance, etc."?
It depends on what thing is critical to you. Once that thing gets upgraded, it will worth to you to upgrade too.

  • Faster Apple Watch Series 9 launches with on-device Siri processing

Not much improvement (very minor tweaks) and they have dropped the ultra original watch face. Get the impression next year we will have carbon neutral plastic watches and cardboard wrist bands if things continue!

Anyone stop to think why we are paying the same or even higher prices for other peoples recycled materials! Surly the price should go down as the quality or durability has decreased?  I even read Titanium scratches easily.

    Thoughts?
Is the new double tap gesture available for old watches?
No. I think they said it needed the clever new accelerometer and neural whatnot magic…
Then I will upgrade from my Series 8. Thanks.

  • Titanium iPhone 15 Pro has new Action button, faster processor

The action button is cool, but the mute switch is very useful and many of us have been using it regularly for 15+ years, so I don’t know why they felt the need to remove it. We could have had both, and the mute switch has the significant benefit of showing its status at a glance, something the action button cannot do. Maybe the 16 Pro?
I think you can choose the mute option for the Action Button then your new iPhone will behave exactly like your old one.
The issue is that it doesn’t show the status. So if you don’t remember if your phone is muted, you’d have to hit it once to see if you just muted or unmuted it, and then either hit it a second time or not, depending on what its previous status is revealed to be. Not the end of the world, but certainly an awkward step backwards from what we’ve enjoyed for the last 16 years.
I think if you press the Action Button it will show whether the iPhone is muted. Is that inconvenient?
