  • Apple's 'By Innovation Only' new iPhone event is on Sept. 10

Unless there is something dramatically new in either health or payments, I am fully expecting a keynote somewhere in the spectrum between ‘meh’ and ‘blah.’
Here’s to hoping the “innovation” part of the invitation surprises us. Although, as has been pointed out by others, if the overall look of the phone doesn’t change drastically there will be howls of outrage and disappointment and lack of innovation. Brace yourselves...
Yup. It's the same story with these bozos every year -- if the look of the shell doesn't change, they cannot comprehend technical innovation under the hood. How they reconcile that with the fact that software itself has no physical shell and is always changing and innovating, is a great mystery.
What “technical innovations under the hood” are you expecting? Please elucidate.

Wow ECG was announced just last year. Some people are never happy.
Are we taking about last year or this year, in this thread? And did I say ‘new in health’?

C’mon, what a pointless response. If you cannot answer a question, why even bother?

  • The road to Steve Jobs' resignation, and the rise of Tim Cook as his successor

When a Doctor tells you that you have Pancreatic Cancer you do not waste time in prayer- not mentioned here, but widely reported, fad diets or fasting. It is amazing that smart people can be so stupid and gullible regarding faith and regarding unproven “alternative” Medicine.

I have worked in Medical Radiology for over 30 years and a significant part of that involved in the diagnosis, treatment, and tracking of Cancer. The specific kind of Pancreatic Cancer he suffered from was one that- if caught early enough - can be treated with the surgical procedure mentioned. It is not a simple procedure and has profound downstream consequences, but can give a patient a high probability of surviving Pancreatic Cancer. Justice Ruth Bader-Ginsberg was successfully treated for a similar form of Pancreatic Cancer and is still alive and kicking, primarily because she did not fritter away precious time with nonsense like prayer, fasting, fad diets and alternative medicine.

Steve Jobs, for all his money and connections, could not get back that precious time he foolishly wasted. That should be an object lesson for everyone. I cannot give you medical advice, but would admonish all to not play around with any Cancer diagnosis. With Cancer, time is the one thing you cannot spare.

I have seen so many people valiantly struggle with Cancer- some surviving and others not. My own Mother died in 2016 of Multiple Myeloma and watching her struggle with it was one of the hardest things I have ever had to witness. To think he had an early diagnosis and wasted it still makes me mad- most people do not get that gift.
Yeh, that's true -- for pancreatic cancer.  With quick and proper medical treatment a small percentage do survive -- and the odds of that are improving.

But, for the most common cancers:  Prostate, breast and colon, lifestyle medicine (which you call "fad diets") are the only way to prevent them.  And, once incurred should be implemented.   To put exclusive faith in a medical system that talks big but offers little is foolish.

It is unfortunate that the medical system can't make money from those treatments.  So, they instead look on them as competitors and try to discredit them.  That competition has cost millions their lives....
Actually you’re completely wrong, For many, many people, cancers are genetic. If DNA markers are present some women opt to have elective mastectomy.

Please, do not give medical advice. You are not qualified.

    Comprehension issues, much?

  • Apple backs move to make corporations accountable to citizens, not shareholders

The ACTUAL core problem is the very existence of shareholders; the stock market is the problem.

It isn’t the stock market that is the problem.  It is the laws governing fiduciary responsibility that have created this mess.  Talk to your congressman / congresswoman.
Talking to your Congress-person will do no good: all corporate law in the US is at the state level. The Federal government only has some limited control over it, e.g., in the areas of disclosure, antitrust, bankruptcy. Laws governing the day-to-day running of businesses, and issues of corporate purpose/accountability are managed by states.

  • Unboxing and activating Apple's titanium Apple Card

Opening a credit card - must be a slow news day.
Actually, having opened quite a few credit card envelopes in my life, dealing with blobs of glue, peeling off stickers, calling a 1-800 number, getting sold collateral stuff while they’re activating the card, etc., this one was a pleasure to open/activate. Felt a teeny bit like dealing with the iPod packaging when it first came out. Nice feeling!

Little things, perhaps. But that’s what differentiates Apple. Some people appreciate it, others don’t.

As an aside, given that I’ll be traveling abroad next week, I wanted to put a ‘travel notice’ on it. Had to call the card’s 1-800 number to do so, it was not something I could do online. That was a tad surprising.
