  • Electric vehicle maker Polestar beats Tesla to Apple CarPlay

I was under the impression that Tesla had no desire to use CarPlay so I don’t know how they were “beat”.
Wording aside (on which I agree with you), as a brand new Tesla S owner, I have to say that their music/messaging interface is embarrassingly primitive: buggy, laggy, can't perform basic functions such as allowing you choose a playlist you want and so forth.

This is particularly surprising given how impressive much of its software interface is, e..g, maps, navigation, security features (e.g., Sentry), vehicle controls, etc.

I think it would really behoove Tesla to adopt something along the lines of CarPlay or at least come up with something reasonably equivalent. Right now, this commonly-used function by a vehicle driver.... to put it in one word: sucks.

PS: The vehicle itself is just magnificent. Easily the best car I've owned, overall.

  • Volkswagen CEO isn't sure that Apple wants to build cars

At this point, it seems he's likely right.

  • Everything new coming to Apple TV in tvOS 16

    My prediction:

    1. Apple will keep focusing having the TV app on as many major smart TV’s as possible to ensure mass access to their services.

    2. Apple will sunset the Apple TV hardware

I doubt it. While they will work to include on as many TVs and other devices as possible, they will not discontinue their own hardware. It is the only way they can deliver the best possible user experience. TV hardware is typically under powered and they tend to give up software support after a couple of years.
Agreed. I haven’t used a smart TV that didn’t suck due to being painfully slow (including a new at the time Visio with Apple TV app), not to mention terrible, terrible remote. I would never voluntarily give up my ATV for one of these supposed smart TVs. (Not to mention all the spying for advertising analytics.)
Try the newer TCLs. Fantastic TV for the price, and the best part is, it has AppleTV built-in (along with Roku, Prime, Hulu, Disney, and even Comcast programming... and more). It is extremely easy to set up and quite zippy in its response.

  • Tim Cook says return to office work plan is 'the mother of all experiments'

COVID proved what we all really knew anyway:  If you work in an office, your job can be done without leaving the house.  It's time to end commuting for office workers forever.

Hey, here's a thought:  Maybe it's time to mandate commuting pay.  If an employer decides a job can't be done from home, then that employer must pay the employee for time spent commuting.  That way people who really do have to be physically present get paid for ALL the time spent in work-related activities.

Totally agree for office workers. Especially with the gas price now, who wants to drive anyway.
Yeah, let those idiot, low-wage grunts, you know, like the retail workers, the custodians, show up. They can afford the gas prices, those plebes.

Your post is Exhibit A for the casual arrogance, out-of-touchness, and condescension that passes off for elite social discourse today.
