National emergency alert test will affect all U.S. iPhones on Wednesday
I’m not quite sure what these tests accomplish- since the alerts are passive it’s not like people are going to phone in and say “ hey, I didn’t get the alert”. And seriously, if there is an emergency where you need to alert everyone ion the country that something bad is happening or is about to happen, then reading about it probably not going to help much. -
Apple provides detailed reasoning behind abandoning iPhone CSAM detection
“Apple doesn't "scan" user photos stored on device or in iCloud in any way.”
well, this is a patently false statement. If Apple weren’t scanning photos in any way how could the For You memories feature in the photos app exist. All our photos are being scanned for content, period. This is such a farce it’s sickening.
New article here on AI (Apple insider) just popped up on Apple’s use of AI (the sorta scarier one).
In part it talks about AI use in photos app: “Facial recognition in images is possible thanks to machine learning. The People album allows searching for identified people and curating images.
An on-device knowledge graph powered by machine learning can learn a person's frequently visited places, associated people, events, and more. It can use this gathered data to automatically create curated collections of photos and videos called "Memories."
You don’t have “curated collections” without content scanning. -

Apple Vision Pro $3,499 mixed-reality headset launches at WWDC after years of rumors
And I thought $3000 would have been a galling amount for this. But Apple managed to supersize even that. The vignettes of interaction with family is just creepy. In a work / lab environment this would be more palatable. So, for business this can be a success but I wouldn’t want to see this being a tremendous consumer success. FFS we’re already so disconnected/disassociated- the EyeSight feature does not fix this - oh, and the synthesized persona for FaceTime? Impressive (and I understand they needed a solution for that problem) but that’s super creepy, too. I don’t think you solve that problem until you use your phone with continuity camera (like for Apple TV - very cool) and this headset becomes more like sunglasses (maybe this never happens) -
