  • What you need to order Apple Vision Pro from the Apple Store online

What you need to order Apple Vision Pro from Apple Store online? A healthy bank account and quite a bit of optimism.

  • Future HomeKit could track you through your house and predict your needs

    Yeah, we don’t need this.

At least I certainly don’t want to be tracked throughout my home just for the possibility that my home automation might be a wee bit helpful but in all likelihood it would just be annoying or wrong.

I know it’s not a big city or anything, but it’s Los Angeles, not Las Angeles.  I should know, I live near Son Francisco. :p. I mean, my son, Francisco, who lives in Los Angeles.

  • Apple pays Samsung estimated $950M for missing OLED purchase targets

I am not sure how you get penalized for not meeting the minimum purchase? Isn't it a custom to buy ALL of them to avoid being penalized? Can't those extra screens be saved for repairs when needed? Apple could repair for a lot less and their loss would be minimized.

When talking about serious volume orders companies universally negotiate a price at a given volume.  The better the volume, often a better price can be achieved from a vendor. A guarantee to buy/sell a certain minimum allows a vendor to ensure that a contract to sell will meet their baseline opportunity cost as well as ensuring any hard cost they will have as a result of preparing large orders will be covered.

Vendors have to have a ‘penalty’ if their buyers fail to meet their minimum purchases otherwise they can be left holding the bag for unused components and other sunk costs made because of the purchase agreement.

In Apple’s case, I’m sure they had already accounted for all the screen they might need for repairs. They have a lot of data telling them how many they’ll likely need for any number of units sold.

  • iPhone 15 Pro again rumored to cost more than ever before

Apple will continue to charge outrageous amounts for its top end gear as long as there are people willing to hand over their cash.  Count me out, I don’t need the status symbol to be happy.

  • How Apple's dramatic rise in computing flipped an OS myth

You can be reasonably assured that if somebody is spending their time to disseminate facts for free, it's most likely a contradiction of reality.”

Absolutely the best line in the article.

Thanks for setting the record straight.

  • Only Apple could have made Apple Vision Pro, say firm's design chiefs

This is Apple getting high on its own delusions.

    It's understandable but still ridiculous.

Anybody that thinks only 'they' could do something really needs to rethink things.
I’m pretty sure they are correct when they say only Apple could have created the Apple Vision Pro.
Right? They own the trademark on Apple. Duh. 🥸

    I want M3 iMac - NOW!
What is an M3 Mac going to do what the current ones don't?
Be supported for two more years.
With Sonoma, Apple just dropped support for the Intel iMacs that came out in 2017 which means the oldest iMacs that can run Sonoma are the 2019 models which is kind of insane.
This really is one of the biggest issues with Apple’s release cadence. These 2017 Mac’s are functionally equivalent to the 2018/2019 models with small CPU change for most models but they are now disallowed to run the latest OS.
These recent ‘discounts’ on Apple’s 2+ years old M1 Macs would be much more attractive if the supported timeline was not truncated by the same number of years.

  • iPhone 14 Pro Dynamic Island shows Apple out-thinking rivals again

I give Apple an “A” for the cojones to market this as a feature. As said here in a previous post, the new position makes it appear a bit more like a UI element instead of dead space - but it is a trick. It obviously would still be better to not have this screen real estate interrupted by the camera/sensor assembly - though that is obviously easier said than done when Apple (and other phone mfg) want to market an edge to edge screen.

  • NAD told Apple to modify or discontinue certain Apple Intelligence feature claims

I wonder how all the folks who purchased the latest iPhone with the expectation that they’d be getting to enjoy an enhanced Siri experience are feeling. It is clear the iPhone 17 will be on the market well before any semblance of “AI Siri” ships. I would be feeling pretty cheated had I purchased last fall for that explicit purpose. Ah, well, I suppose if it were really important folks would wait until they could try it out before buying.
