  • Scammer pilfers $75,000 in bitcoin from Steve Wozniak

vannygee said: Imagine a digital asset that is valued based on supply and demand
It isn't really based on supply and demand because there is no limit to the supply. The digital "mine" will never run dry. There is no "search" for new sources.
Yes there is. There is a finite number of Bitcoin (21 million) that can ever be mined built in from day 1.

I would say this is actually more of an issue because coins will get lost (or rather, the keys to claim them will) and no more can be produced to replace them.

  • EU says it may withdraw court case if Ireland recovers full $16B from Apple

I just find this strange. The Country made a deal with Taxes on what they wanted to collect. They don't want this 16 billion. They're on Apple's side, and the EU is forcing them to collect it. The EU will do pretty much anything to get they hands on very large sums of American company's money.
I’m sort-of on Apple/Ireland’s side on this because I don’t think Apple were offered a sweetheart deal (all international corporations get the same very sweet deal - you can argue separately whether that’s fair)

You should be aware, however, that (a) Ireland is part of the EU by choice and is signed up to its rules & institutions and (b) the money will not go to the EU but to the Irish exchequer.

This is about the EU forcing Ireland to play on a level playing field with other EU members (as they see it).

  • Premium-priced iPhone X, iPhone 8 propel Apple to $88.3B in revenue in its best quarter ev...

iPhone sales were down about 1% y/y, but 1Q2018 was also a week shorter than 1Q2017. 13 weeks this year vice 14 last year. So, they sold 1% less phones in about 7% less time. If 1Q this year had the same number of weeks as last year, iPhone sales would have been up 5-6%.
The other ignored point is that a lot of potential buyers would have been waiting for the iPhone X to be reviewed and available - and by the time it was - it was immediately backordered for weeks.

To my mind that means the demand is certainly still there and if they had been able to go to market with the X at the same time as the 8 this would have been an even crazier quarter.

  • Apple's first HomePod ads urge customers to 'order now'

Priced much higher than competing speakers, Apple is pushing hard to differentiate HomePod“.

Depends on what you consider “competing speakers” to be.
