  • Apple phasing out iPad mini in light of low sales, Plus-sized iPhones - report

I know I'm probably in the minority, but I think there's a place for both large iPhones and small iPads. I use both of mine all the time for different purposes. Sure my iPhone Plus size has a large screen, but I can't run full iPad apps on it. And I can't really use an iPad as a phone. Well you can link it to your account in ways, but not use as a sole phone. My mini iPad fits perfectly on the tank bag of my motorcycle, so I use it as my map when I ride. I also use it as my coffee table browser, and my recipe holder in the kitchen. I can't imagine using a larger iPad or an iPhone for those things. Maybe it's just me.

  • Apple's GarageBand, iMovie, Keynote, Numbers, Pages now free for all iOS & macOS users

I have an 8 core 2.8 Ghz Xeon processor Mac Pro with 32 GB RAM, but Apple says I can't run 10.12, so I can't run any of the current versions of iWork apps.
Do a search for Sierra Patch Tool. There are a lot of Mac models that are not officially still supported, but are capable of running the latest versions with a patch.

  • Apple Music reportedly leads Spotify, Pandora in unique monthly users

Anecdotally, in my own little bubble, most people use Spotify. A few old timers at work still stream Pandora at the office. But I generally think of Spotify now as the "Kleenex" or "Xerox" or "Google" in terms of brand name ubiquity and usage. Want to play some music? Just put on the Spotify. I was at a town meeting recently and there was talk of an event coming up where they wanted to play music for attendees, and one guy suggested we could play some Apple Music from some speakers. It struck me as sounding very odd, since I'd never heard that before. Then I noticed his new Apple Watch, iPhone 7, new Macbook Pro all with him at the table. Figure he's an Apple guy. So still, anecdotally for me, the only person I've ever heard even mention Apple Music is some guy decked out in all the latest Apple gear.

  • Apple exposes how it teaches new languages to Siri, staying ahead of competition

I don't think transcribing the words she hears is the problem. Being able to do what I want is the problem. I still feel like I need to memorize a list of commands she knows. Too often I get a "would you like me to search the web?" or "I'm sorry I can't do that." I won't be likely to use Siri much until I can speak to her like she's actually a person, or can have a conversation and figure out what I mean more reliably.

  • Inside iOS 10: Examining the new smart Photos features

I certainly hope syncing is coming soon. I have tens of thousands of photos. I don't want to go through and name/verify faces on every device I have.
