Crime blotter: Teenaged Apple Store robber agrees to pay security guards
ihatescreennames said:gustav said:ihatescreennames said:tokyojimu said:In the US you are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Until then you are a suspect.noun | a person thought to be guilty of a crime or offense: the police have arrested a suspect.
per-pe tra•tor l noun a person who carries out a harmful, illegal, or immoral act: the perpetrators of this crime must be brought to justice.
In this case, the perpetrator of the crime made a FaceTime call and proved they did it. There is no suspicion here.
”Ultimately, the victim was able to ping the iPad and notify officers of the suspect's location, leading to his arrest, although he did resist it. He was charged with vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, burglary and resisting arrest with violence.”
The perpetrator was charged with crimes. He isn’t a suspect. Richard Jewell (who I don’t need to google) WAS a suspect. He ended up not being charged because there was no evidence that he did it. That’s where the word “suspect” makes sense. This is not one of those cases.
Police arresting and charging someone with a crime doesn't make them guilty unless and until it's proven in court. However that doesn't stop any individual from believing what ever they want. Those beliefs may or may not be correct. Some people believe that whatever they believe is fact. The court systems aren't perfect but they're better than acting solely on someone's arbitrary belief systems. -
John Giannandrea out as Siri chief, Apple Vision Pro lead in
The last year? How about the last decade. About the only thing Siri has consistently been good at is setting a timer. Most of the time I use Alexa for that, but it frequently forgets before time is up.
Is AI supposed to save Siri? I've no interest in AI and probably won't for the next 1-2 years, until it can do something I'm interested in, and do it accurately and reliably.

EU will force Apple to totally expose its iPhone features to all who ask
An iOSeu restricted to the eu might work but I don't know that Apple could do it without giving up proprietary IP. If so that could be a way to go. I'd like to know how just dropping the EU from their phones and any other Apple products would affect their bottom line after a period of adjustment.
No doubt the EU would retaliate some how if they only got an euPhone. Just assume they're never going back. If the EU capitulates then let the negotiating begin. -
Folding iPhone will probably cost more than the Mac Studio
DAalseth said:If so it will receive the same criticism and fate as the VisionPro.ssfe11 said:Just like everything else people will pay it for status, to feel special, to be different etc.
Just like everything else there will be those who can't pull their head out to see that there'll be those who will appreciate the extra real estate and compactness and not have to rely on an iPad mini. The price of admission will be steep just like the first generation of everything else. Those with the cranial rectal inversion will insist that status is the only reason anyone would pay that kind of dosh. That's a limitation on their part. So some customers who could use one will go without until if and when the price comes down.
I find the concept really interesting but I won't be in line on Day One like I was for the iPhone. There was also the same diatribe about it when announced. Too expensive. Status seekers only... Some people are really slow. But that's their problem.
