  • Wedding banned - Apple Watches not welcome at fashionista's ceremony

No small amount of misogyny here. But like the freedom of a couple to make a specific request on a wedding invitation, people in forums have the freedom to make judgement calls with little or no basis but their own projections.

All the declarations of how they will or won't behave at someone's wedding because it's all about them, and not the happy couple. What asshats. I don't mean asshats.

Presumably it's friends and family that are invited to weddings but anybody who's been to a wedding or three knows that doesn't mean members of either will behave with basic common courtesy, same as demonstrated here.

We don't know why that specific request was made. If fact we don't know that tweet is genuine. The author could have made it up. If genuine does the couple seem smartwatches the same way people see 'kleenexx' 'Xerox' (mainly a few boomers on that one) or any other brand name pressed into generic service? Do they think Apple Watches garish and will accept Rolex, certain Pateks, or even a lowly Cartier? Or could then not want any smartwatch beeping during the ceremony, thinking that people will silence their phones? Just like in movie theaters. Right. We don't know.

I've been to weddings and heard phones on 'silent' and phones not on silent including those with loud songs as 'ring tones'. WTF.

A wedding couple gets to decide what goes and what doesn't at their wedding. That is their right. If they want every guest to wear clown shoes that's their right. Obviously they can't enforce it short of having security at the door. It's up to the guests to honor the requests. Like others have said they don't like it they don't have to go. Whether a couple are friends or not, if I'm not comfortable with any requests I just wouldn't attend. Nobody especially me needs to tell them 'I'll wear whatever I want to your wedding'. That's an asshat move. Just don't go.

Is it a shallow request? Maybe. Maybe not. Attendees defying the request are definitely shallower than their perception of the request.

It would be helpful to know more about the situation but it's an opportunity to assume the worst about two people (especially the bride) and demonstrate equally bad behavior. Grown ups. Yay us.

  • How Tim Cook gets Trump to help Apple

Well history of the first four years of the Trump Administration proved you wrong and most Americans, via the recent election, disagree with you.
You should revisit Trump's use of tariffs from his first term. The soybean tariffs were such a disaster for American farmers that Republicans had to do a taxpayer funded bailout of those same farmers. So instead of boosting trade, it depressed trade and created debt levels so high that it could have destabilized American soybean production.
So soybeans, really that’s the issue of concern. Oh boy. 🧒
That's your takeaway? WTF. It's not the issue of concern. It's a bellwether of an issue of concern as in those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. Then again if they don't understand it in the first place memory will have taught them nothing. Trump has already threatened Mexico with a promised 25% tariff and Mexico says bring it. He thinks everyone will bow to his will. By the way he never made them pay for the wall.

Even when he's in agreement with someone, he's the scorpion/snake on their alligator back. Cook may be able to negotiate a no-tariff deal, but to Trump Tim Apple is a mere vassal same as any other US manufacturer that conducts some aspect of their business outside the US and its territories.

The one thing we can trust about Trump is that he can't be trust. And that he will grift as often as possible. That his ego knows no bounds and that he's no guitar hero. Ok that's four things. I hate to think about it but there's more.

Pointing out other peoples flaws without reflecting how you are better isn’t going to win an election.
Uh, that was Trump's entire campaign. He didn't reflect on how he'd do better only that he would. OK he did promise deporting millions of people and establishing tariffs so yeah there's that. He might have even promised to rebuild The Wall.

Granted Harris' campaign should have been much better. Still the tried and true strategy of telling lies people would prefer to believe and stoking their biases and fears won the election. It got half the country to elect an authoritarian who's a despot in training. Voting for Trump or not voting at all because the Dems didn't have a candidate I might not have liked was never an option. Maybe Harris wouldn't have turned out to be a great POTUS but she wouldn't come close to being the worst POTUS ever or even a bad one.

Four years from now let's all meet here and list all the ways the US and not very wealthy individuals was so much better under the Grifter in Chief. We can count all the wealth we accumulated like Scrooge McDuck. I predict that will be a very short discussion and an even shorter counting session.

The only people missing those "good ol' days" will be the very wealthy and those happy to see Browns, Blacks, and furriners put in their place. Preferably outside the US. Yes don't forget women barefoot and pregnant as God [insert upside down Bible pic here] intended. But there will be some consolation with the political inertia from Trump's war on Democracy.

I'll take solace knowing I still can afford an iPhone (I understand, Tim really) but will have to sell my Trump NFCs to afford food and shelter. We'll always have soybeans.

I am tired of the capitulation to T**** (the loser). He’s a criminal. That half of America voted for a criminal makes no difference3 in his criminal state.

When a corporation bows to a politician, it is called fascism, or state-capitalism.
when a political leader determines the winner of an economic sector, it’s fascism.

He was voted in because dems had useless candidates, again. He won by default.

Harris had four months to mount a campaign, raise money and introduce herself and her excellent running mate to the American people.  She had a huge uphill battle against a sea of lies told so often that people believed them and the media became exhausted debunking them.
This. It wasn't a sea of lies, it was a tsunami of lies. He won because too many Dems stayed home. Too many Undecideds were selfish.

Main stream media, the news those not addicted to the FAUX News entertainment show watch, was silent on Trump's constant bald face lies. Fact checking was left to online sources that most older people never see. All they wanted to talk about was Biden's performance at the debate. But not one word about Trump's increasingly bizarre performance and memory lapses.

And too many stupid people blindly believed his and RNC's lies targeting their hate and discontent without any basis in truth. They weren't open-minded enough to see his actual character or lack of it. They actually believe life will be better under his rule. His cabinet recommendations don't bother them at all. "Soybeans? That was a one off. Couldn't possibly happen again." Sure.

A huge cloud is headed our way. We had a chance to prepare and ignored it. There is no silver lining for anyone but the 1%, and xenophobes who don't care what it costs, as long has he gets "them" the cause of all their troubles.

Democracy is being stabbed to death and as with Kitty Genovese too many are just ignoring it. And other "patriots" are cheering it on. Trump is escaping justice at every turn and he just gets bolder. His cult members apparently love a good grift.

Well history of the first four years of the Trump Administration proved you wrong and most Americans, via the recent election, disagree with you.
Trump’s first term was a disaster for the country. The economy still has not recovered. He left us distrusted by our allies, our enemies strengthened and emboldened, and a million dead from covid. There is nothing that Trump touched his first term that he did not screw up beyond all recognition. The term in incompetent at any speed comes to mind. Then he finished with January 6 which was nothing but pure treason. No, history has shown that Trump was a disaster for the country.
You can blame lots of things on him but the economy crapping out was due to COVID which he did not cause or control. He tried to close the borders to entry, but of course it was challenged in course. He also opened all doors to getting a vaccine developed as fast as possible and this in itself was incredible effort. Crap on the rest of his actions but not these two.

What a load of crap. One of the first things Trump did in 2017 was gut Obama's NSC Pandemic Preparedness Systems doing things like appointing a  Trump Yes Man to head the CDC and provide misleading and false information about COVID deaths.

He claimed it was just like the flu and would be over in a few weeks. He thought injecting bleach and shining UV light in bodies would cure COVID. He did nothing when the pandemic started even though he'd been warned. Then he claimed the pandemic "snuck up on us" which was another of many likes he'd tell.

He appointed Pence to lead a COVID task force and ignored many of their recommendations. In short he DID control a great deal of what happened with the spread of the pandemic through actions, inaction, lies, and misleading statements. What little substantive actions he did take were only because handlers made him realize that all the people dying on his watch were bad optics. He his ilk were responsible for creating and spreading distrust in vaccines. I don't know that he bought shares in Ivermectin but he could and should have reassured the public that there were no nanochips in the vaccines and they didn't magnetize people.

Everything positive he did was too little too late and done only because it was self-serving. So yes we can absolutely blame the disastorus spread of COVID on him and the distrust he fueled. Don't for get when he tried to encourage vaccination at a rally his own cult members booed him.

All this and then there's the lies about widespread voter fraud. Cyber Ninjas found NOTHING. What a surprise.

Those who voted for him and those who didn't vote for Harris will come to realize that what damage will have been done to democracy in the next four years will not be undone in the following four years. Even if complete reason is restored to our three branches of Government. We've got a rough decade ahead of us. How much of it will be under authoritarian rule depends on the new awareness of voters in 2028.

Democrats did a poor job of fighting outright lies and main stream media bears much responsibility for not helping at all. Trump supporters can comeback in four years and tell me how wrong I am. As if.
