mdirvin said:I like it, but are we sure its 4 days? This would explain why my phone has ask be several times to enter my passcode to activate face ID. I was a bit taken back it has done it 3 or 4 times lately. But it hadn't been even 4 hours of inactivity. It was a bit of a pain since I use a 12 character passcode.
What might also be a problem is if your phone inadvertantly sees your face at a bad angle and didn't recognize it, it views it as an unauthorized attempt to unlock. After a number of attempts (10?) it disables Face ID and you need to use your passcode. Or as mentioned, redoing your Face ID might fix things. -

Apple CEO Tim Cook congratulates Trump on his second election win
Maybe this time the jerk will give Cook the basic courtesy of getting his name right. He deliberately referred to him as Tim Apple to let Cook know who was boss. That's very childish behavior for someone who sees himself as a world leader dealing with CEOs and others who play a role in the economy.
Here's where we see if there are sufficient handles to keep Trump from doing stupid things like the 100% tariff that he claimed would eliminate taxes. Cook isn't the only CEO worried about that. Trumpp says the oversees manufacturers will pay the tariff and it's all good. But it's just not that simple. We the consumer in order to buy a more perfect product would/will be saddled with an increase equal to at least the amount of tariff. We'll balk at price hikes when making larger purchases. I don't Apple or any other seller reducing the profit margin to give us a break.
Cook knows the effect a tariff could have on sales and has to work with the cards he's dealt. If he doesn't extend his professionalism to the orange menace he risks being target and is more vulnerable this time than last. It's going to be an ugly four years with no noticeable improvement after that. -
A clever hack fixes the new Mac mini power button's awkward location
StrangeDays said:rob53 said:Every Mac can go into a low-power mode, allowing it to receive things from the web. Leaving any Mac on is actually better than power cycling it every time you use it. Startup requires a lot of energy and is something only casual users do. They aren't turning their Macs off to save energy, they're turning them off because that's how you used to do it back in the Intel days.
As for the button being on the bottom, that's actually a stupid move for Apple. When these go into server racks, and they will go there immediately after the M4 Mac mini Pro is released, data centers will complain. Sure they will only turn them on once but they will need the easy ability to manually power cycle them when needed.
Dude are you not aware the height of the mini is 2" according to Apple's tech specs? You probably have Keebler sized fingers if you consider the gap "large". It's probably close to 3/8". That's not large by most adult fingers.
There's also biomechanics involved. Most people who might be able to squeeze a digit through that gap wouldn't be able to press up with just bending at the distal interphalangeal joint. The bend would probably occur instead at the proximal interphalangeal joint. This means that even with tiny elfin fingers that gap isn't enough for a finger to press the button without some lift of the mini itself.
This is obviously not a real problem given most installations will allow the mini to be lifted at the corner to press the button. At the end of the day it's a bad design. Apple could have put it at the front on the bottom which would be more accessible for a recessed installation. Or on the side, They didn't. People will improve, adapt, and overcome. At it will still be a bad design.
