  • Tesla design chief takes shot at Apple, claims there's 'nothing to look forward to'

    He’s not wrong.
    My thoughts exactly.
The thing is that personal computing devices and software are so advanced at this point that 'refinements' is as good as it gets. I do get excited about some refinements - hello universal control - but one of my main computers is a 2013 iMac that is really pared down in terms of the software I have loaded into it - I don't log into iCloud on it - and the thing is 100% functional for its purpose.
I run a much more recent model next to it but in terms of basic functionality they are pretty equal.

There are major milestones but they don't happen often. What was the last incredible milestone that happen in the auto design industry? Electrification was pretty huge but we are already at a refinement stage there, too.  Autonomous vehicles is major. Other than that it has basically been refinements since the model T

  • Amazon reclassified as grocer by UK, subjecting it to more regulation

I understand if the WholeFoods entity of the company is regarded as a grocer, but the whole of Amazon?! That’s just dumb
You sell groceries - you fall under grocery store regulations
You sell electronics - you fall under electronics store regulations
You sell medications - you fall under pharmacy regulation
    etc etc
You sell the lot - you fall under all of them.
    Makes sense to me.

Buy a grocery store and deliver groceries, and people somehow think you're a grocery store??? Who knew?
Ha ha. Funny how that works.

  • Microsoft says that if Apple isn't stopped now, its antitrust behavior will just get worse...

Apple is much too successful - we need to stop it now! -- Microsoft

Microsoft is pretty pathetic, and Apple's privacy terms rankle Microsoft's nerves. Too bad Windows doesn't have the same privacy safeguards - with Windows attempting to force everything through Edge.

Microsoft runs their own closed ecosystem with XBox, so it's a lot of Microsoft calling the kettle black.

The real monopoly is in the enterprise software realm where Microsoft keeps boosting prices for their good enough software.

What really pisses off Microsoft is that they don't have access to Apple Silicon ARM processors, so Windows ARM will run faster on Apple hardware than on their OEMs - or indeed on their own surface machines.
Microsoft has a point here. In the 90s it was so successful it almost killed Apple. On the other hand, Steve Jobs resurrected Apple without having to stop Microsoft.
Yup, MS is speaking from experience

But I have to say I have often wondered why Apple hasn't separated its various businesses. I am not at all sure what that would look like, or even if it would help keep antitrust lawsuits from coming.

  • Apple seeds macOS 12.2 to public with rebuilt Apple Music, minor updates

I truly wish this endless stream of stupid, inconsequential, pointless (i.e., not security-related), eye-candy updates will CEASE. STOP.

Between the Mac, the phone, the iPad, AppleTV and the Watch, all I am doing is constantly updating. It's frikkin' laughable at this point, and I am -- as I have no doubt many others are -- tired of it.

Apple is becoming worse than Microsoft ever was.
Easy solution:  don't update. Do it once per year or whatever is your preference instead. No one is making you get miserable updating your OS's.
    You're welcome. No charge
