  • 2022 Mac Pro said to use Intel Ice Lake Xeon W-3300 CPU

I suspect if they are doing this it’s because many businesses are conservative and already have a heavy investment in software that is optimised for thar chipset. We need to consider the cost of new software and the reality is that many software houses won’t have a finished stable port of their applications.

The real question is whether they will be offering an ARM based Mac Pro at the same time?

  • FTC pledges to take on unlawful restrictions on right-to-repair

Once companies are forced to consider “right to repair” as a business requirement, that they can’t push back against, they’ll probably look for ways to make it work.

Businesses will typically push back against changes that will cost them money, but once they can’t push back, then they’ll find ways to make it economical to themselves.

Hopefully the right to repair will also help reduce certified repair costs, but that is probably wishful thinking?

  • Bill Gates said Steve Jobs caught Microsoft 'flat-footed' with launch of iTunes Store

Steve jobs caught a lot of people flat footed. Microsoft often had some good ideas, but didn’t have that human experience orientated drive and philosophy to get the magic right. If they cared it didn’t make itself apparent.

Microsoft already had a phone and a tablet, but they were targeted towards a business market. This is a market where as long as you have the functionality the rest is extra. Steve targeting more of a consumer market and having created the Mac knew that the offering had to be as much an emotional one as it was functional.

  • Microsoft Windows 11 revealed with dramatic increase in system requirements

TPM chip requirement! Well, that may be a bummer for bootcamp/dual boot mac owners who like to have windows for work or other reasons.

Not sure if VMs can get around that, anyone?
That would be a bummer. I have several older Macs running Windows 10 Pro as servers for MySQL.
Did you mean MySQL or SQL Server? If you mean the former, then moving to a Linux would make much more sense, especially due to reduced license cost and the fact Linux does run both natively and in VM form on Mac hardware. If you mean the latter, then you may be better off running it on a dedicated Windows host.

One article describing installing Linux on a Mac: https://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/how-install-linux-on-mac-3637265/

  • Intel-based MacBook Pro is Intel's latest anti-Apple campaign target

Intel drops the ball, AMD picks it up and Apple decides they'd go with ARM. Intel is now in the process of doing damage control.

Apple on the other hand never targeted gamers and has always been a joke for gamers. Deprecating OpenGL and leaving it in a seemingly unmaintained state does not help the game developers who do want to port to macOS. On the other hand, while this is a barrier for a certain number of game developers, that iOS has a healthy selection of games, may mean there is a chance that these games will be ported to macOS. Also, I wonder how many Apple users simply turn to a console for the gaming experience?
