  • Apple rumored to sell Apple TV 4K, HomePod at cost

"Smart TVs are everywhere" - so are porta-potties. I've been a TV geek longer than a computer geek and started with the latter in 1981. So-called smart TVs are about as competent as the Tandy Model 100 I have stashed in the back of our study closet.

  • Apple & Aetna team up for health-tracking 'Attain' program

Aetna has always been open to supportive activities.  When I still lived in CT, I worked out at a fitness center and played on the club's squash team.  Always a highlight to go to Aetna and play their junior (and not so junior - like me) execs.  Yes, especially when we'd win.  They also turned their parklike grounds over to bicycle racing on Sundays.

Though an Apple customer for quite a while, I didn't get an iPhone till the SE.  And it wasn't till I upgraded to a 7 that I did one of those "smack yourself on the forehead moments" when I discovered HealthKit.  A bit under 2 years ago.  Having a digital tracker in my pocket gave me easy access to recording, modifying, nutrition as well as goal-setting and recording progress.

Took off 70 pounds.  Now weigh what I did at 16.  Bought a new weight bench.  Bluetooth headphones for my daily walks.  Having a ball!

  • Apple features Apple Pay Cash with new YouTube ads

APC is amazing. I use it often.
My wife and I use it all the time to sort out our shared household expenses. We can run through a grocery shopping receipt in a few seconds...share out my individual outside-the-budget items...jump into Apple Pay and round up the budget, again, which is her domain.  Piece of cake.  Pun intended.

  • Apple posts detailed roster of first AirPlay 2-equipped TVs

Does all these TVs announced with AirPlay2 undermine the market for AppleTV?

    Clearly the answer is "yes."

AppleTV became an increasingly mediocre, pointless product. Pretty much everything it does/did has been slowly, steadily competed away. Indeed, many competitors offerings give you much more (e.g., Roku with a $29.99 product that has an Xfinity app which allowed me to return the two additional cable boxes I had, thereby saving me $240/per year).

It was only a matter of time that Apple woke up and smelled the roses. Such a wasted opportunity. (Siri might be headed in the same direction).
I follow a few cable cutter forums and we use both Vue and Sling in our extended family. Though the latter two are my prime interest, I can't help but notice the greatest number of complaints involve Roku anything.  At least you're timely exiting Xfinity.  They're headed for a price increase this year as their response to lost customers. About the dumbest tactic I can imagine.

Yes, we have a couple generations of ATV in the compound - including the 4K.  No need for any less secure copycats. Which BTW is why I don't recommend using, activating or allowing separate "smart" features of our TVs on our wifi networks.

  • AirPlay 2 & HomeKit also coming to 2019 Vizio TV lineup

I'm never getting another Vizio. Mine started out ok with good picture and mediocre apps, but good coverage. However it seems like they just got more unstable over time and have stopped receiving software updates to actually fix them. I have one that will turn itself on randomly and subsequently lock up (have to unplug since power button on unit doesn't even respond then, it is NOT a errant remote signal bouncing into the room),
Televisions are like hard drives. For every person that will never buy another X, and prefers Y, There is one that will never buy another Y, and prefers X.
If that's your best understanding of market dynamics, join the lemmings buying shares of GE because it's cheap!

Meanwhilw - as previously noted - since we no longer touch Samsung with anyone's 10-foot pole, we've been more than satisfied with our Vizio TV purchases.  My wife's response to the article was, "wonder if Vizio will rollout a firmware update to add these features to the 2018 P-series" we have in the living room?
