  • iPhone 15 rumors: Thinner bezels, USB-C, and more expensive

Let me get this straight. Apple removes a proprietary connector and replaces it with a cheaper industry standard that's made on a scale thousands of times larger than Lightning, but charges their customers more.

Wish I'd thought of that! Wish Apple Jobs had thought of that 4 years ago. Is Lightning the last Apple-proprietary connector?
Gee it’s almost as if pricing decisions are based on what the market will bear.

This weird obssesion, this fetish with bigger and bigger cameras on phones, with truckloads of megapixels, just to take a pic of your cat,or a sloppy selfie, is getting out of hand already .

The camera on the original iPhone SE was more than enough. But nooo, snob teenagers want moar ,moar!
With respect, I disagree. The quality of photos from an iPhone really started being "good" from around the iPhone 6S and up, at least in my opinion. I have taken thousands of photos of my children growing up and of course I'll continue to take thousands more.

In the future, when I look back, I'll appreciate the extra quality that I got with each upgrade (roughly every 4 years for me). Comparing the pictures from my iPhone 4S to my iPhone 14 Pro Max is simply a night and day difference. Yes, the original iPhone SE had a pretty decent camera. But it cannot hold a candle to my current phone.
Well, ofc its a big difference ,those devices are many years apart. What I meant is that imo,the cameras became sufficient years ago,for our ocasional cat,Dog,child, tree, selfie photos .

If I need more professional,I still have a Canon nearby . I want my phone to be slim, suple, with amazing battery, lightweight. Not covered on cameras and punch holes.

Smartphones should be in essence ,mini portable computers. How many laptops or iPad/tablets have you seen with 3,4,5 cameras ?

Still I got myself a Pro Max, cause I like the quality and the ecosystem. But its bulky and heavy .
Are you suggesting that the cameras should not be improved then? That’s very luddite of you.

  • Apple's AirTag helps a magician find his lost bag at Newark airport

    mayfly said:
This was not a "case" of incompetence. This was a baggage handler hoping to sell some sound equipment he got for free. This happens thousands of times every year. And they do it with the collusion of apathetic, incompetent and/or involved customer service agents.

Agent: "No, your bag is not in Newark."
You: "There's an AirTag on it, and here it is, at gate 90."
Agent: "There's nothing I can do. When we find it, we'll return it to you."
    You: "Thanks for nothing."

Then you cram your rage down deep inside, because you know the alternative will end up with you in jail. Our luggage has been lost by airlines 7 times! And once it was stolen off the carousel. It's how we discovered the joy (and fun) of domestic train travel. It takes longer, but it's like riding a bicycle instead of driving. You see your country up close. You can get up and walk around any time you please, and there is always coffee hot and ready for you. A first class sleeper has 10 times the room of an economy seat on a plane, costs about the same, and has real food at mealtime, in a dining car with real tablecloths, china and flatware. In addition, you share your table with another couple and get to know someone new, sometimes become friends. The waiting room is spacious (in our Union Station in Chicago) and has comfortable easy chairs and sofas, and snacks and drinks! There is no TSA rifling through your underwear, and Amtrak has never misplaced our bags. Ever.

I accept that it's not suitable for everyone, not even always for us. But if you're traveling in North America for leisure, just try it once. You'll be hooked for life.
The international version aka ocean liners unfortunately are no longer a thing

  • New EU regulations mandate user-replaceable batteries in Apple products

Simple solution for the EU. iPhones for that market will have internal battery removed and the phone will instead be powered by a magsafe pack. The rest of us can continue having a version done the right way.
