  • iFixit matches Apple's $29 battery swap cost, covers pre-iPhone 6 devices

I concur with MustSeeUHDTV.  The designs we all loved came at that one very annoying aspect...no DIY battery maintenance.  The sad fact is now it has bitten Apple in the butt, and they have to do something to make the lifetime of their products survive post-warranty (AppleCare+ 2 year) periods.  Or, for some countries even longer.  Slowing down the device (and therefore the performance...noticeably or not to the consumer) so the battery is pampered has ignited in their face.  Consumers (with troves of lawyers) jumped all over this within hours of Apple's announcement last week.  Those lawsuits will continue building.  This will put AntennaGate to shame in magnitude.

  • First look: Benchmarks put Apple's entry-level $4999 iMac Pro to the test

Pure dream machine!  Have to wait for a good year's bonus or tax return for this baby!

  • FCC Chairman Ajit Pai reveals Net Neutrality repeal plan, vote on Dec. 14

Goodbye internet as we’ve come to know it and Hello to pay-as-you-go (or as your speed noticeably decreases to get it back). No two ways about it.  :(

  • Tips: Bring back iOS app management to the Mac with iMazing 2.5.1

I agree. As a father who managed/manages a household of Apple iDevices from wife to youngest, iTunes 12.7 was-/is a big disappointment. I own iMazing and can verify that the new features are quite welcome in my Apple world. Just try to find some app on iOS. It’s nothing like what it was in iTunes. And look at the leading terrible example of iBooks...stripped away versions ago for a standalone version that to this day can’t sync my PDFs properly and confuses the heck out of me when it’s STILL controlled inside iTunes. Again, with all the engineers at Apple, one needs to worry about organization in those engineering ranks. Jony...set this straight.

P.S.  Jony, bring back Aperture Pro 4.0 while you’re at it!

  • FCC chairman urges Apple to activate FM radios in iPhones in light of recent disasters [u]...

That is why they still make battery operated radios and it is called the Emergency Broadcast Network.

Even if the chip was activated, it assumes someone had an app loaded on the phone which could access radio stations. Why not just use the amber alert system. Oh is that because the cell tower were not working, if they were not working how does someone down load the app then.

This is typical government solutions to a problems which is you can not fix stupid. Not to say everyone is stupid in this case, even my kids have no idea what the Emergency Broadcast Network is and know to tune into the radio.  The one and only time we heard the test on the radio my kids had no idea what it was about and why it was even needed. I hardly hear radio stations even testing it anymore.

If people have no ideal they are suppose to listen to the radio during an emergency, what make the FCC think people would listen on their cell phones.

As an Apple heavy family with multiple i-devices in each family members reach, i still have an ETON Dynamo hand crank radio (with added battery backup) in my basement. Just smart planning, that’s all.
