  • CalDigit USB-C HDMI Dock has Thunderbolt 4 and 94W PD charging

The Thunderbolt 4 port will operate as a 40GB/s connection on modern Macs and a 10GB/s connection to an iPad Pro.
    Ugh.

    GB/s = GigaBYTES/second. Gb/s = GigaBITS/second. The latter is the correct one here.

  • Is AppleCare+ worth it for Mac?

Another option is a personal items policy from your insurance provider. I have one on my MBP from State Farm and it covers everything from theft to me spilling wine all over it without a deductible. Of course you pay every year, but depending on the value you're covering it may be cheaper than AppleCare+ in the long run and cover more.

  • Apple working on smaller and more efficient AC power adapters

...However there seems to be some diminishing returns, the 65W is not much faster than the 20W to fully charge an iPad — about 15 minutes. Compiling charge time data now.

Which iPad? My understanding is the iPad Pro (2018/2020) can fast charge up to 45W even though they ship with 18W chargers. But more importantly is what power profiles your chargers support — it's not just about wattage. For example, the Apple 30W and 61W (updated version) have the 15V profile which will charge the iPad Pro faster than the 87W adapter.

I also learned some of this from Gruber's recent column —

  • Zendure SuperBase 500 review: our go-to power accessory

Why in the world do I need a powerstation?
The most obvious use of a powerstation is going to be for the outdoors-oriented folk who are camping, fishing, or heading for a long weekend getaway at a cabin.

Some people don't understand the value of "getting away from it all."

Does anyone know if one would have trouble flying with this beast?  I expect airlines would be nonplussed about having a massive lithium ion device onboard.  Pretty sure it wouldn't be allowed in cargo, but I don't know what the restrictions are for carry on.  The TSA guys would likely give this a good, long look.
No lithium batteries are allowed in cargo, only carryon — and these are too big even for carryon:

Size limits: Lithium metal (non-rechargeable) batteries are limited to 2 grams of lithium per battery. Lithium ion (rechargeable) batteries are limited to a rating of 100 watt hours (Wh) per battery. These limits allow for nearly all types of lithium batteries used by the average person in their electronic devices. With airline approval, passengers may also carry up to two spare larger lithium ion batteries (101-160 Wh) or Lithium metal batteries (2-8 grams). This size covers the larger after-market extended-life laptop computer batteries and some larger batteries used in professional audio/visual equipment.

I ordered mine on the first day available and still waiting here in Canada - should be delivered between "24 Dec - 5 Jan".

Intercom question: if you use the HPM to send an intercom message, will it announce the message to people wearing other brands of bluetooth headsets or corded headphones, or only AirPods? I really don't want to buy AirPods for my kids - too easy to lose!
I believe that Intercom is a feature of the Apple eco-system, it is limited to Apple devices.
To clarify I do mean other bluetooth headsets and Apple corded headphones connected to Apple devices (iPod touch, iPhones).
On iPhones/iPads it appears as a notification that you can listen to. Not sure it announces the audio without interaction? If it does, like Messages, that’s an AirPods/Beats feature.
