  • Initial 2018 MacBook Air benchmarks show modest improvement over 2017 MacBook

Well this could get interesting if they drop an A12X+ into the first ARM MacBook... let's say it's the current MB... they'll have a low-cost Mac that punches like a 6-core i7 MBP... can't let that happen so they may have to cripple the first low-end ARM Macs to give the MBP a fighting chance  :D

  • Apple's new Mac mini finally arrives with 5X performance, Thunderbolt 3, more

A fully spec'd out one would likely give my 12-core MP a run for the money (though speaking of money a loaded 6-core Mac Mini would cost about the same as what I was able to score a floor model 64GB 12-core MP for).

Still these are the machines those of us who need build, etc servers wanted.
Thank you. Wow. Thank you. Thank you. Wow. Wow. Thank you.

  • Apple's new 11- & 12.9-inch iPad Pros sport a massive redesign and gain Face ID, USB-C

Nice job on the new iPads (though the price points are getting a bit painful)... BUT!!!! The keep the iPad mini 4 in the presentation... no upgrade at all, no price drop... what the??? And did it with a totally straight face.

It seems it would have been less insulting to drop it from the line up.

It's actually the one I need right now for my bedtime safari-on-line subscription tech book reader (and in general the weight/size is just right for some of us)... so will continue to wait and hope for a processor bump (or grab one when they drop it).

  • Apple unveils all new 13-inch MacBook Air with Retina display, Thunderbolt 3 and more

It really seems crowded and confused pricing and feature/function/form-wise between the MB, nMBA and nTB 13 MBP... I didn't catch if the MBA is fanless (don't think so?), if so then I can see it as an alternative to the MB for those wanting a bit more room and 2 ports (and maybe thermals are better to avoid throttling)...

If it does have a fan seems that I'd want the increase performance of the MBP for $100 more (was comparing a 16GB, 256MB)... but of course we're talking 7th Gen on the MBP vs 8th on the MBA...

Anyway if I were Joe/Jane consumer I'd be confused as which one to get and it's seem antithetical to Saint Jobs's product matrix gospels.

I read he claimed to creating a two button mouse, I think Steve stole the idea Xerox and they had a two button mouse, but Steve knew it could be done with one button. What an accomplishment.
It *could* be done with one button. And a modifier key. That modifier key was *already on the mouse*. So instead, you have to locate the modifier key on the keyboard. Two devices required to perform a single action.

    Why get rid of it?

dont get me wrong. He got a lot of things right. In my view the single button mouse was not one of them.
Didn't the original STAR mouse have three buttons?  Less is more.  As things got more advanced and complicated, the second button became useful.  Once people were familiar with the mouse as a tool, the second button wasn't confusing.  One was the right number in 1984.
Yup... use them and Smalltalk in the 70's and 80's... left button (the "red" button, though they weren't colored) was for object/text selection and movement, the middle ("yellow") button for a context menu on the object or view area (pane) you're in and the right ("blue") button for the window menu (move/close/resize... they didn't have a window bar yet... I remember copying that from the Mac/X Windows to Smalltalk window tab being one of my contributions to the environment).

To bring the mouse to the masses one button was the right choice... from a IxD perspective I think it's agreed by most that 2-buttons is the "right" number.

And to the topic... RIP Paul Allen... I guess one could consider him the "Woz" of Microsoft. Hope with all the fortune and success he achieved he was able to have a happy life (I can imagine it can be tough with the hassles that much wealth can bring into one's personal relationships)
