JUST GOT IPHONE 4. WORKS GREAT. NO ISSUES, NO YELLOW, NO DROPPED CALLS, NO PROXIMITY PROBLEMS. WHATS UP PEOPLE? I WAS WAITING TO BUY BECAUSE OF ALL THE SUPPOSED ISSUES. IT WOULD BE MORE HELPFUL FOR PEOPLE TO GIVE HONEST REVIEW OF THEIR EXPERIENCES THAN ALL OF THE THEORETICAL CRAP THATS BEING SAID. WHAT REALLY MATTERS IS CAN YOU MAKE CALL, GET TEXTS, INTERNET SEE THE SCREEN, TAKE A PICTURE WHATEVER. IF YOU ARE EXPECTING PHONE TO S#@K YOUR D%*K YOU MIGHT BE DISAPPOINTED.
For $700 I personally think the absolute least it could do is work as a phone without me having to pay attention to where I'm making contact with its frame. It's also a matter of preferring Apple to remain as they have been historically - a producer of quality electronics, not a producer of electronics that are just good enough while still being priced at a premium.
Apple products have always needed "special" treatment - Remember the first iPhone would not work with standard headphones because of the weird jack?, or that you could get any screen you wanted on an iMac - as long as it was glossy?
Why did you think this would be any different? I'm not knocking Apple, this is their standard MO, and I have learned that you adjust to Apple's way or don't buy it. Complaints get corrected in the next revision.
That being said, put a case on it or return it. If you want a "better" solution, then dropping calls wasn't the real issue.
Your experience doesn't mirror mine, so like I said, this is a non-issue for me. I don't use cases or bumpers, so I don't care what they charge for it. What word did I spell wrong?
You used the word "due", as opposed to 'do', in the second to last sentence.
But not to worry, brucep has little room to complain...
Everyone can, as long as the signal isn't very strong.
Read this and Apple's press release for an explanation of how the bars reflect actual signal strength. What it boils down to is the iPhone 4 losing around -10 dB in signal more than many other smart phones when held in a certain way, and that drop, combined with what is normal for phones (about another -10 dB), combined with the way Apple represents bars (note that this is not just Apple), results in the bar loss we've seen so many times. On the flip-side, the iPhone 4 holds a signal very well at lower signal strengths. In the end it amounts to a phone which is more reliable than the iPhone 3GS.
Exactly. People don't seem to understand that the phone can be _more_ reliable and have a more erratic signal at the same time.
Hmmm, I am an Apple Shareholder too. I have been reading all of this because, well, it will affect my Apple stock. J/K, I think this is all a tempest in a teacup. I read one post that seemed the most sensible of all, that Apple sacrificed some design aspects to create new different design aspects. Meaning the antenna design brings in new features and advantages and yet sacrifices some other design issues such as how it is held with a bare hand. And... so??
Look, everyone has choice, there are issues, yes, and there are ways to solve the problem. One, use a case. Each and every friend of mine that has an iPhone has a case, period. (they all have older versions of the iPhone so not for the current issue but to protect the device) Two, if using a case is so repugnant to you, hold it so you don't cover the antenna. Three, you hate that Apple isn't making your mobile phone experience orgasmically perfect? Choose another brand. Yes, choose another brand. (that old yarn about not being able to please all of the people all of the time is true and Apple is wise in not trying to do the impossible)
For me? I don't have an iPhone and am not ever getting one. I work at my home office so I am tied to one place most of the time and my land line is just fine. When I do leave I have a old stupid LG cell phone that can do the internet and text but I do not know how to do that on this phone so I don't even try. I will be getting an iPad 3G so I can be on the internet and text and when I need to talk on the phone I will use the phone. I personally like them to be separate and not in one device. But that is me, I know my friends, (the ones who all have cases for their iPhones) love them and love that they can do it all in one device So good. There is not one thing ever that is going to be the perfect thing for everyone, so choose accordingly.
*ETA* What I meant about J/K was that as a stock holder I am not worried about this issue, but it is true, I am a stockholder, only wish I had more! (I bought when it was in the high 70's)
It isn't an issue because it is the nature of any similarly situated phone. My brother has a Verizon HTC Droid Aris. We just spend some time making that phone lose a bar or two depending on the hand position. Our Mom uses the Motorola Droid, it does the same thing. I can make my iPhone 3GS do the same thing. If people want sleek small smart phones, they have to except where you hold the phone is going to influence the performance of the device.
I guarantee some of Apple's competitors are the ones making this become an "issue." The iPhone 4 is awesome.
Like you said, why sue Apple? Apple has offered to allow the return of the phone for a full refund. I doubt anybody is taking Apple up on that.
This post is bugging me so I have to say something. That's fine and dandy that all phones do this, but the iPhone 4 is the first phone I've ever owned that stops working completely when I hold it very lightly. I cannot load data, or make calls when that little black strip is blocked.

Your reply is bugging me so I must respond. Boo F&^%ing Hoo. You have 3 options:
1. Hold it differently (which you seem unable to do)
2. Your phone may be defective - return it
3. Put a case on it.
I'm not making light of your problem, I'm saying you have alternatives to complaining about it. Fix it and get on with your life.

The above, in capitals, is what twats say, ignore them, they're retards who can't afford iPhones yet.

You're lying. You're a shareholder.

Maybe he's lying about being a shareholder.
If you are expecting phone to s#@k your d%*k you might be disappointed.
I want an app that will build me an island then transform into a f@#king jet and fly me there.

'alot' is two words... 'a lot'.
'discusting' should be spelled 'disgusting'.
That's too bad really. Oh well.
My iPhone 4 is the BEST!
My iPhone 4 is the BEST!
No, my iPhone 4 is the BEST. I know this to be true because if these forums are anything to go by it's the one out of 2+ Million that actually works.
My iPhone 4 is the BEST!
No! MY iPhone 4 is the best. I fart in your iPhone 4's general direction.
Funny, I am able to reliably reproduce signal drop with a single finger against the band dividing the two antennas...
I cannot replicate the problem on mine... I guess for once I have been lucky.
