If you like smooth scrolling, extended battery life and the ability to read the NY times in portrait mode, get the iPad.

If you want an expensive iPad copy with a jerky, redundant interface, Europeans will have to travel to the US.

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is a blatantly bad copy of the iPad. If I had never seen the iPad before I would think that the 10.1 is an amazing device with a horribly confusing interface. If you are not tech savvy, the Galaxy tab is not user friendly and you will need help. lame.

I just love how the bottom icon tray superimposes itself over the home screen apps. I love how there are 3 other ways to get to some variation of an app launcher. It is everything they teach you not to do in human factor training.

The way that the scrolling lists bounce at the bottom and the multitouch scrolling will need to be removed from android. I had not expected the copying to be so blatant down to fit and finish details.

Mmm... Maybe Apple should withdraw their complaint and allow the Sammy to find its natural level...

Customer returns have a much worse effect on the bottom line than reseller returns.

Nothing makes a quality product look good -- like a bad copy.

Except that you'll start hearing this:

"A friend of mine took his iPad back... it was a real piece of shit. He couldn't even download any apps from the app store."

This has a double-barrel loss potential

Despite the bitter legal battle, Apple is said to be the largest customer of Samsung, and is expected to buy some $7.8 billion in components from its rival this year. But there have been rumors that Apple plans to move production of its custom-built chips, beginning with the a so-called "A6" processor in 2012, away from Samsung to another chipmaker, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, in 2012.

Once someone gets on Steve's shitlist, there's no getting off.

I am sure that Apple will continue to use Sammy as a supplier where they need to -- but will actively seek alternatives and abandon Sammy at the earliest opportunity.

I still believe that Apple wants Intel to make the A6,

I was gonna make a flip comment about this, but it turns out it's serious business. My local burrito place is closed early, my local sushi place is closed early even my local pizza place closed early. I may have to cook!

    I'm shocked, shocked and appalled.

Not surprised to be honest, because:

    1) Europe - we don't f**k around and;

    2) Germany - they REALLY don't f**k around!

Its nice to see all of this payoff in the end - the level of obvious copy cat was at the same level as Jesus is to a bible-belt christian.

This is why it matters to Apple. It does create confusion and it does taint Apple's brand. So many people don't get it. I do find all the Europeans critiquing US patent laws to be fairly amusing now.

It appears this ruling is binding on the whole EU. Will it remain until the issue ismresolved in court?

Samsungs fabs have an acceptable yield and at least are capable of producing the A6.

TSMC on the other hand - once again - seems to have quite some problems in getting their manufactoring process working >.>

It certainly is a key victory. Whether it will stand in the next 4 weeks is a different question. But the fact that this happened at all is significant. I was surprised.

Along with the decision in Australia, another temporary one, of course, this will influence the ITc here, as these decisions always do.

It's binding everywhere but the netherlands, since apparently there was already a case there.

It's a funny thing, because the US courts in Texas would never file in favor of Apple's IP.

I would just love to be a fly on the wall at the next Samsung board meeting. They are all probably going to kill themselves. Serves them right...

It's a poor area, not too far from where my daughters' dorm is. The police shot someone, who died, and that's what the riots are about, so it isn't a a funny thing.

Sounds like Apple should start all future suits in Germany.

On the serious side, the impact of this is magnified by the comparatively short shelf life of such gadgets. Every month off the market is like seven years in human terms. By the time the dust settles the Galaxy Tablet 10.1 will be obsolete. Apple may have effectively shut it down.

That was the trigger, but not what it's about anymore. At this point it's just a lot inchoate anger aided and abetted by anarchy with a small A.

Oh, I read posts like this on a daily basis about all of Apples' products, on various sites. It's amusing, because Apple has the lowest return rates, on average. But, when we read, even though they are testimonial in nature, of Samsungs' top phones having return rates of 30-40%, and of about 100% Of their tablets in Staples, it becomes something to begin believing in light of Samsung's recent statement that they will no longer provide numbers of tablets and phones shipped. Shipped, not even sold!

And how do these numbers relate to marketshare? Well, they use shipped numbers for everyone except Apple, for whom we know the sold numbers. But are returns taken into account in this? I don't know. We heard that Samsung shipped 5 million of their top Galaxy phone, but if 30% were returned, that means that they couldn't possibly have SOLD more than 3.5 million, when returns are taken into account, assuming they sold every unit that was shipped. But I bet that 5 million will be the number used in the totals. Same thing for their tablets. Meaningless!

That's why I mentioned it's a poor area. Whenever something like this happens in poor areas, whether correct or not, it's felt the police don't care, and rioting happens. You're right that it then takes on a greater level of discontentment.
