I guess they do not want to give away anything before the WWDC and hence the simplicity. The cryptic banners are only raising the expectations.
Cryptic or minimal? They are simply signs with 7 and X on them. I think why they stand out so much, more than anything, is how different and good they look. If they are raising expectations it is because they're better designed than any previous banners at any previous WWDC.
Except they've already done Leopards twice, and Black Panthers are Leopards most of the time anyway. When they are not, they are basically black Jaguars (also already done), or (rarely) Cougars.
"Cougar" makes more sense in that it has no unfortunate political overtones, and it's a real species of big cat, although a Cougar is also a Mountain Lion which has also been done.
Panthers are not really big cats at all, they are misnamed other things.
'Cougar' having no unfortunate political overtones? Of course not...
Of course, this is certainly a problem they face. And I understand that Black (and White) Panthers represent a number of specifically-coloured felines, rather than being an actual type of big cat. They may, however, go back to using a coloured Panther if they readopt more Aqua-like features (which may explain the use of the sea in the background).
Ma name's Tim Cook
I'll tell ya, you're here to look
At our products; we've got ya hooked
On the platform, the OS, and the ecosystem
Where others missed 'em,
We persist and the gist
Of my keynote
Is to bring you bliss with all the features,
and all the APIs and specs,
We're here to flex our prowess
'Cause we're the best
In all the Valley at integration,
This is our station,
With great elation I'm gonna tell ya
'Bout the iMacs, the MacBooks,
And the Mini, too,
They're gettin' Haswell, new Wi-Fi,
And new GPUs
So give a hand now
For Schiller, my personal Phyllis Diller
Who's gonna thrill ya with the details
and all the rest of that filler!

In for OSX 10.9 'Cougar' to be followed by OS XI 'MILF'
It's identical to the Mac Mini, AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express, Time Capsule, Apple TV, iOS icons, and iCloud widget things."
Wrong. This event will feature a Apple TV announcement. And then some... Mark my words, as I will be back Monday to gloat about my psychic abilities. :P

The Force is strong in this WWDC...
Wrong, the announcements will be about iRoundedcorner X. Jony Ive will take the stage in his trademark grey t shirt and three day stubble to fawn over the perfectly crafted radii of the new corners which were lovingly researched. The 83 minute video and 17 product demos will show how no other company has ever before created such perfect corner arcs and that these are now protected by aggressive trademarks, patents and copyrights. The conclusion of the keynote will be the public execution of Samsung's CEO.
I wonder if they are going to announce their own FAB this year or next.
Yes, I understand FABs cost $Billions to erect and $Billions to maintain. However, if a 3rd party can do this and sell chips to Apple for a profit, then Apple can cut the middleman out and probably save money. Possibly Israel, if not the U.S.. Would it not be poetic to spend that money in Ireland by building a FAB there? : )
Either way, the best way to keep a secret is to tell no one, and the only way to do that is to keep things in-house. They have the money, and the intellectual need to do so. With the help of their friends at Intel (for a guarantee to keep using their chips in desktops and laptops), they could easily do this in 2-years max, unless of course, there is a foundry that Apple could purchase. Who might have such a facility and also be in need of money *cough* AMD *cough* : )
I know many people, including myself, have pondered this before, but this would be one of my biggest wishes this year. For how could the competition copy that which they cannot see? Until, of course, the whole world sees, but then that keeps Apple a few years ahead each time.
It's like the PC world in which one could easily use the same components as you do, thus offering the same features. Perviously Apple had their OS as the core feature no one could duplicate before it was released. Soon, I hope, Apple will also have hardware that won't be available to the market as a whole. Then things really change.
What might the Ax processor be etched for that would give Apple an advantage other ARM processors would not have? Thoughts?
You should be banned for posting a nazi banner. I lost half of my ancestors during WW2, you asshole. You are posting comments like little child as if everything is funny and harmless but in reality most people don't like you.

Like iOS 7 and the new version of OS X.

I'd ban you if I could.

For the next WWDC I'd like to see comic sans.

It'll be interesting to see what they call it.
