It's only two scholarships for 10k each, so this is not a big deal really, but I am opposed to it nonetheless out of principle.
The scholarship is a joke in more than one way. For one (2) $10,000 scholarships will do nothing significant. The bigger joke is that it wastes money on people that couldn't get scholarships through normal channels and will put worthless individuals in positions they can't handle.
Diversity is a liberal codeword for it's ok to be racist as long as we're liberals and let's call it diversity!

    They're not fooling me.
Liberals are very racist but more so elitist. This is just a way to deflect criticism of their attitudes.

The reality is if you qualify, that is you have the grades and demonstrated skills to succeed in college you can get aid and scholarships no matter what the color of your skin. If you don't have the education and skills you have no reason to be in college in the first place.

Agreed... Apple should offer a hundred of them, two in each State. Every year.  That would be a big deal.  I disagree, however, with the rest of your rant, which I view as misguided.

I suspect you are the one that is misguided here. There is plenty of support for qualified students via grants, scholarships and loanS. You don't have to be anything other than qualified to get access to the financing. By targetting minorities in this way all Apple accomplishes is putting unqualified students into programs they can't handle.

The fact is this is a racist policy that will accomplish little in the way of positive change. Frankly offering a college scholarship is way to late in the development cycle of the so called disadvantaged.

You're completely missing the point now. This has nothing to do with family.

Does it really matter? Special treatment is ok in some cases and not in others?

Of course it matters. One does not attempt to argue against misguided societal attitudes with bizarre unrelated issues.

If you have nothing that further advances your original point, then your turn is over.

Where have you got this idea that Apple are going to award the scholarships to "unqualified" "worthless" students?

Actually, if I were a minority or historically black college or university, I would be pissed at this announcement. 1)$20,000 is less than one Apple pays for postage in one day. That number is a token only, and an embarrassing one. 2) HBCUs, as small as they tend to be, spend millions of dollars on Apple product every year. Sure, they get decent discounts, but so do all Universities. You would think if Apple was being serious about this, the donated scholarships might be proportional in some way.

So you believe even though people freely decide to buy Apple products, "minorities" (I don't like that word because of what it suggests) are still entitled to more free stuff because..."minority"?

You also weren't enslaved, and purposely kept uneducated for generation after generation.
The Jews as a whole seem to be doing pretty well for themselves. Or was their slavery and imprisonment over centuries not as bad?

For the record- I think Asians, blacks and Hispanics are doing well for themselves as well. I hate this reverse racism.

Tim Cook should be ashamed of himself.

This positive discrimination bullshit is Apple's very own toxic hellstew.

I don't want to see spawn of the devil breeding there; there's more than enough emanating from Samsung's and Google's pits.

What's the br in lawyer stand for? Blatantly racist?

About 20 minutes too much. 20 seconds wasted on the scholarships, and the rest to compensate the talented people now discouraged of applying to Apple.

    I agree.

Even one person supporting the positive discrimination fostered by Apple in these scholarships is a shame, let alone the handful here that have done so.

On the contrary: if they're going to have such iniquitous scholarships, at least it's a tiny amount. With luck, they'll reduce the award to $200 next year and phase it out altogether.
