Apple can design it, but the difficulty in all of this is it is very hard to get enough parts to satisfy the demand. Most companies would be happy to have the end of life cycle demand for product that Apple has. Tim Cook & Apple are really good at what they do and they can do even better. It is just difficult to make millions and millions of something to satisfy demand.
However, with this said, I am confident that they have some really good ideas coming to market. I just hate to see all this negativity about them - I am proud to be a stock holder. And I am in line to buy even more products. A new touch screen computer (iPad Air Pro or what ever it will be called). new Macs and new Phones are on my list - as soon as they become available. I just want them to produce a single product SKU if possible that will work on Verizon or T. I do not like being locked into a single Cell Phone provider and I had rather pay for my Phone up front than have it subsidized & locked. Maybe Apple will be able to do it soon . . . provided they can get Millions and Millions of the parts. It is not because they lake the talent. The A9 and up will be necessary to get the Software to do what they envision. The quality software offerings are what is really needed.
I'm currently real happy with the iPad Air 2, but I'll pick up this iPad Air Plus also or whatever the hell they're going to call it when it comes out next year.
1. This needs to run full Mac OS X and side by side apps
2. This needs to have a pen
3. IGZO will save us all
4. Just wait until Broadwell or Skylake!
5. But but but Android tablets!
As far as running OSX on this 12" iPad, Apple has applied for a touch-enabled version of OSX, so it isn't out of the realm of possibility. Whether it becomes a reality or not or Apple calls it OSX (or not) remains to be seen.
If all it is, is an iPad Air with a bigger screen then the calling it iPad Air Plus makes perfect sense. Kind of like the iPhone 6 Plus to the iPhone 6
Not really; it’s a different model. What’s the point of adding ‘Air’ if you’re not going to call the larger, better one ‘Pro’ when you’ve already established that convention?
May as well claim the MacBook Pro is going to be renamed MacBook Air Plus.
True stereo. I miss having a speaker on each side like I had on my Surface 2.
Technically speaking, the iPads are stereo, as in there's an L and an R coming out of separate speakers. They might not be that far apart, since they're on the Portrait end of the iPad, but they are technically stereo.
If by true stereo, you mean farther apart, then too much of a good thing there can be bad. Certain people hook up speakers at home and the speakers are too far apart, so you get a big hole in the middle, which is not good.
I know what you mean though, I have been wanting landscape speakers on iPads for a long time now.
The thing about four speakers seems unlikely, since you would only need three for stereo sound in portrait and landscape.
It would work with 3, but having one in each corner would be better, so that you would get stereo coming out of either the top or the bottom, no matter which orientation the iPad is in.

I'm sure that they've looked into it, but as I've stated a hundred times before, I think that certain people who are looking for Apple to make a Surface type device are deeply confused individuals.
If this report is true anyone who bought an iPad mini 3 was a sucker. And margins must not be so horrible if the mini gets updated with A8X within 6 months.
It is possible they didn't upgrade because they couldn't get the fabs to produce enough A8 chips for a third device.

I just want speakers on both sides, when I watch YouTube videos it's in landscape mode, I just have to deal with not having sound on one side. Oftentimes I hold it at an angle so both ears get sounds from the speakers.
On a side note, I got to mess around with an Air 2 in a Verizon store today. Man is that thing thin! WIsh they'd had better apps on it though.
I have other iPads also, and when I pick up the original iPad Mini, it feels fat compared to the iPad Air 2.
What do you mean by better apps though? Do you mean on the display model you saw?
Yeah, they were lame. Only one Metal app, Mr. Crab, and that's not a graphical tour-de-force. I also really liked seeing the gold color in person, I think I might go for it next time instead of space gray.
Yay! Stereo sound, if you'll pardon the pun, sounds awesome!
I could never take that crit very seriously -- watching a movie on an iPad without headphones ? Who expects amazing sound? How will landscape stereo (portrait already has stereo) improvement such an experience?

No need for worry, just tell everyone that your 9.7" is actually 12.2"...
We are still talking about iPads aren't we?

Sounds good to me!

(1) Hell no. If they do, then Apple will definitely lose at least one sale, me!
(2) I don't really give a crap about any pens.
(3) Don't really care. Current iPad Air 2 display looks pretty damn good.
(4) Laptop chips (with fans?) ? Not in my iPad thank you.
(5) Do I look like a cheap bum?

All current iPads have stereo speakers.
I've previously said that I didn't like that the speakers are made for portrait, which doesn't make much sense.
This new iPad Air Plus having stereo speakers that works properly with both portrait and landscape is a great thing! It's about time!

Jonathan Ive loves symmetry.

Post means "after", not "replacement". Thus we already have true post-PC devices.

It sure is thin.

I think that they should have offered gold / black bezels.
When I chose the color for my iPad Air 2, I didn't really have any choice at all, since I wanted black bezels, and only the space grey came with that.
