Some people make life decision before knowing what's out there.

I consider such decisions to be stupid, but I have always had a hard time seeing a reason for marriage because I know from dating that an intense love can eventually become someone you merely wish to be friends with, indifferent too, or dislike altogether, although I can say that everyone I've loved in my life I still love — and wish for them the best — for the reasons in wish I fell in love in the first place; at least in the emotional and intelligence aspects of the relationship. Clearly the girl I thought was physically beautiful at 21yo will not be beautiful by that same standard 15 years later, even if she is beautiful today by my standards for a mid-30's woman.

I get that pot use could be considered similar to alcohol use, but there is a difference between responsible use and irresponsible use. The problem I see is that pot users are generality young people who might not have the discipline to use it responsibly.

While I was recovering from my health crisis I ended up watching too much daytime TV, but, I was amazed how many commercials were targeting unemployed youth. If young people are sitting around in the middle of the day watching TV, I can only imagine that they might also be getting high instead of getting into those educational programs being offered. We as a society really don't need our young people perpetually stoned. Although biologically, it may be harmless, physiologically it is a complete dead end.

One of my favourite quotes from South Park is from the episode "My Future Self n' Me"…

    STAN MARSH
"All I've been trying to get you guys to do is admit that you lied to me!"

    RANDY MARSH
"Oh well, son, we've just been trying to make sure you know how dangerous drugs like pot are."

    STAN MARSH
"I've been told a lot of things about pot, but I've come to find out a lot of those things aren't true! So I don't know what to believe!"

    RANDY MARSH
"Well, Stan, the truth is marijuana probably isn't going to make you kill people and most likely isn't gonna fund terrorists, but, well, son, pot makes you feel fine with being bored, and it's when you're bored that you should be learning some new skill or discovering some new science or being creative. If you smoke pot you may grow up to find out that you aren't good at anything."

    STAN MARSH
"I really, really wish you just would've told me that from the beginning."

    SHARON MARSH
"He's right. If we use lies and exaggerations to keep kids off drugs, then they're never gonna believe anything we tell them."

Look, lots of racists believe that Obama set race relations back!:D

The only reason race relations seem worse is that Obama's election brought the racists out of the woodwork (Tea Party, Limbaugh, Scalise, Bundy Ranch Thugs, etc, etc) and emboldened them. This is the case with any forward progress, the knuckle-draggers make a last-ditch effort to keep the status quo.

Obama, by any objective measure, has been a very successful President. Moreover, his current approval rating stands where Reagan's was at this point in his presidency (48%). Contrast that to Bush's 28% approval and it's obvious why the racist Republican Party is so scared.

Where do people get their ambition and skills? From nurturing, by example, from education, from mentors, from encouragement, etc. You don't just put a kid on the street and expect them to do well without help in developing their educational and social skills. You have to start somewhere and the most logical place in my opinion is in education. It is a long term process. It is not something that you can give an immediate ROI value to.

Would you want to be rewarded because of the color of your skin? It's insulting and diminishing of the individual and when done under the banner of government, unconstitutional as it is unequal treatment. Let people compete of their own skills and ambition.

You're forgetting that it'll probably reward much more white people, than people of color.

Apparently the Kennedy clan would procure women for the lads in the hope of keeping it out of the spotlight.

One wonders why people bother to get married at all. It's a legal arrangement that is a consensual lie.

It need not be ... like any other relationship it is worth as much as the participants are willing to put into it. I can think of no greater feeling than seeing happiness through the eyes of one you love ...

I see diversity of backgrounds and opinions as a benefit to any organization. Would you consider scholarships for Christians to be insulting? Scholarships for folks of Scandanavian heritage, would you find that insulting?

Moreover, what about people being accepted into college because of "legacy", like George W Bush? What about when their rich fathers donated a huge sum of money to the University and that is why folks like Romney, Bush, etc got into college?

Further, if you are REALLY against affirmative action, let's get rid of the electoral college which, by definition, gives more weight to folks living in unpopulated states. Also, let's assign Senators according to a state's population. It's clear that there are 2 examples of affirmative action in the Constitution- the electoral college and the fact that each state gets 2 senators, regardless of population.

I think that's something we need to consider here. I think its far more beneficial to send someone to rehab instead of locking them up.

Are you supporting infidelity? Why not simply get divorced? Is there any evidence for all involved to have a spouse distrust you or children that don't respect you, or, worse, children that think that infidelity is a rite of passage?

It's hard to generalise because every relationship is different. It's not good for people to be dishonest with each other and one form of dishonesty can lead to another. Infidelity can be in retaliation for something else. I agree that divorce should be the route to go but it's up to the people involved if they will be better or worse off. Some people have open relationships.

I have no problem with people having open relationships people getting married for any number of reasons that are not for love or commitment, but I do have a problem with tricking someone into believing you will be monogamous. Ritz to throw a motional and physical health as well as others around you is just to higher price, which we see time and time again by people being caught and then claiming they are sorry despite only being sorry for getting caught.

I don't even have a problem with the people on TLC show called My Husband's Not Gay because both parties are aware of their husband's SSA (same sex attraction). I think it's ridiculous and sad that both parties choose not accept the full reality of the situation (ate say not as stated on the show) but I support their open decision.

... judged not by the color age of their skin but by the content of their character ...

IMO, beauty, while a great initial attraction, is not a reason to marry or even maintain a relationship ... rather, it's personality and, for a lasting relationship, character ...

In this too-short life -- humor plays a major part ... My Mom, when asked on their 55th anniversary, why she married my Dad ... said simply: "He makes me laugh!"

Sure. I broke out physical beauty from emotion and intelligence because I pair them together as a single entity, and it's one I find to be critical.

Perhaps I can't see how people can/would cheat because my sex drive isn't as intense as other people (or not. Who knows?). I can say with certainty that despite being able to see a woman and instantly determine if I find her attractive (and to which degree), that I am not attracted to someone until I get to know them in some regard. Even a single, clever comment is all it takes.

I do support legalizing cannabis, but other drugs, no way.

The problem with drugs (any) being illegal is that the only two guaranteed results are - a) many more criminals primarily in the form of users, and b) all control will be in the hands of ruthless criminals.

How to deal with drugs is a different discussion but criminalizing the use and possession of drugs is clearly self defeating.

@mstone I agree with the requirement for education ... And, in principal, I agree with the concept of free to all residents community colleges.* However, I doubt that instituting a special California State tax to accomplish this will lead to the desired results. One only has to revisit the lavish tax benefits promised to State Education by the Lottery taxes ...

The politician/government solution hasn't worked in CA -- what about Detroit, Bed-Sty ... DC ...

There's got to be a better way than giving only 5-10 cents on the tax-dollar collected, to the target recipients.

    * In the mid 1950's, I attended Pasadena City College -- free, top notch non-segregated (among others, both Jackie and Mel Robinson are famous alumni). In 1957, I took a night course at PCC, in "Punched Card Accounting" that changed my life -- eventually leading to my employment by IBM, then self-employment owning computer stores in Silicon Valley.

I don't think affirmative action means what you think it does. Read up on it, perhaps?

And while were at it, read up on high school civics class, since you must have failed that too. (Spoiler: guess why there is a house of representatives?)
