    1. How couldn't Apple hide they were doing this through a shell company?

    2. Why didn't Apple start this initiative 3 years ago?

I've heard people on the forums here saying Flyover is way better than Google Street View but that's not what I hear people saying. People overwhelmingly like and use street view than Flyover. Flyover is more like a great way to demonstrate an iPad or look around a city BEFORE visiting. Not while you're there.

I much prefer flyover and 3d view than googles street view. God I haven't used street view in forever

    Me neither.

    Why not?

Actually, it is. Apple may have 46K employees, but most of those are manufacturing and retail. The core of Apple is run like a startup and they actively attempt to keep it to about 4K employees so they stay "nimble". So 150 employees would be nearly 4% of their foundational workforce.

Elon is doing more exciting stuff that will benefit the world more than any other person or company. I love Apple but Elon is simply awesome.

Um, not quite. Per Apple's most recent 10-K filing with the SEC:
As of September 27, 2014, the Company had approximately 92,600 full-time equivalent employees and an additional 4,400 full-time equivalent temporary employees and contractors. Approximately 46,200 of the total full-time equivalent employees worked in the Company’s Retail segment.

Seriously? Rob Enderle? What is it that compels otherwise smart people to continually quote Rob Enderle? Can you find one instance where Enderle has been right about Apple? Go ahead. I'll wait. Google is your friend.

Are you back yet? Good. I hope you can see now that quoting Rob Enderle makes you look like an asshat. Please refrain from any future mention of him. Thank you.

If I had that same choice, I'd choose Tesla as well. It's a fantastic company with a disruptive vision and a great work environment.

Not only those things, but Apple is doomed... doomed, I say!!! Buhahahaha!!!

I still think that contraption on top of the minivan is some version of PrimeSense's 3D data collection, and it's nothing to do with the Tesla hiring story.

It would be cool of Apple could not only capture photos at street level, but collect enough depth data to create 3D "street views" that one could navigate, similar to flyover.

I have a strong feeling its coming and coming soon!

And seams like search engine too..

Only a clown would think Apple is working on self driving cars, at least at this point. Completely bonkers. It's for Maps, you clown.

I find it hard to believe Apple is going into the mini-van business. Soccer moms everywhere will be so disappointed.

I think Apple is more interested in hiring them for battery technology since the Apple Watch won't even last 24 hours.

I'm pretty sure a 25 pound lead-acid battery will keep that ?watch going and going and going...

You could be right, but take a look at the photo again...
Notice that there is a nozzle mounted on the roof spraying something off toward the side of the road.

Aluminum dust..? Chem-trails?? Some kind of chemical to make haters become irresistible to the ?watch and iDevices...?

    Only Timmy knows for sure...!

You're on the fence about this.

If Apple wanted to escape detection, they could have mounted that contraption on top of a el camino or something. Whatever they're up to, I hope it helps fix the horrible walking directions in the maps app.

As far as my guess, the poaching almost certainly has to do with battery technology.

As much as I love Apple, given the choice I would rather work for Tesla or SpaceX. They are companies created and run by a visionary. Tim Cook is running someone else's company, very well, but still it's not the same.

So does Apple want them for their battery experience or their rocket building experience?

You're muxing up Tesla with SpaceX spam. But your point is made. Tesla have some of the best battery people on the planet.

I don't think it has to do with battery tech.  They could probably get a better result by throwing money at the University of Limerick: http://www.ul.ie/news-centre/news/researchers-make-breakthrough-in-battery-technology/

No, I think they are thinking of making their own electric vehicle as they think it is the next big thing.

I use Streetview far more than Flyover simply because I don't have wings so the data I get from Google makes far more sense when you are there.

Most people who say Flyover is better are super Apple fans, so they would say that. Either that or they never leave the house.

Once Apple release their own version of Streetview, a lot of people will suddenly become a good idea.

Flyover is impressive but it's just for show, it's not ultimately useful unless you want to work out a walking route in a city. Actually finding a specific company or building, it's useless.

The curse for Limerick is possibly the lack of venture capital in ireland or Europe. Those guys would be in a startup worth millions if they were in stanford.

I hope its not a self driving car.

Yeah. Street view is so much more useful.
