Apple may be stretched too thin right now, with new releases of OS X, iOS, watchOS, tvOS, the iPad Pro with Pencil, and continuing improvements to Maps and Siri. Hopefully its engineers will be able to focus on filling in the holes by Thanksgiving or worst-case Xmas.
The all-bells-and-whistles iPad Pro was going to be my Christmas present request (well, you know how that works...), but I am not so sure now. I think I am going to take an Apple store card instead, and wait.
I see nothing wrong with the iPad Pro, unless one is expecting 3D Touch. Pencil functionality and multitouch are still a powerful combination.
Some people are jumping ship awfully soon, especially the one who's returning it without even opening it.
When you actually try it out you find that the keyboard you input your email address with saves your email address in recents. So when you log into the next app you don't have to type that back in. You also find that the app store can be configured to not require a password. Turn it off, load all of the apps then turn it back on to avoid accidental purchases. There also appears to be a way to turn it off for free apps, I just turned it off all together so didn't look too closely at that.
Typing passwords to set up the different apps is a pain, it's also something that only has to be done once per device.
I also see there are a lot more apps than appear on the featured page. I wish there was a way to browse through them or at least browse through large selection by categories. I would assume something like that will come.
I would also assume that the apple remote app will get updated.
I am confused about one thing, though. I thought you could play multiplayer games using your iOS device as a controller. Do those require game specific apps?
After 24 hours with my ATV4, I've decided it is going back.
1) Siri is too limited.
2) Optical audio output removed.
3) No podcast app.
4) Inadvertently touching the trackpad pauses or scrubs along the contents timeline causing me to lose my place.
5) Netflix, Hulu, and others look more like their smart TV and Blu-Ray player counterparts - not as simple as the ATV2/3.
6) Apple wireless keyboard support removed.
7) Apple remote app support removed.
8) No 4K support.
Most of these can be addressed in software, but I'm not willing to gamble with $200. If Apple fixes most of these, perhaps I'll re-purchase. As it is, this product feels very premature. For now, my three ATV3s serve my needs better than does the ATV4. I love Apple and I like most of their products, but this one is a big disappointment to me. The only positives I can see are the power and volume buttons work over HDMI-CEC on my connected devices and the video screen savers are a fun novelty.
Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention Apple Music, too, which isn't available everywhere.
But you think Apple has infinite resources... or it's just mismanaged? Otherwise your comment is just blathering nonsense." src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />

In my Twitter feed I've seen several people indicate that Apple stores are selling lots of these. Apparently the Beverly Hills store sold 500 yesterday alone. I wonder what the return rate will be...
Purchasing a film has been a bit of an issue too. By default it seems you can only buy HD formats; I prefer SD but there seems no way of selecting them on ATV4. In the end I got around it by purchasing via iTunes on my iMac.
Had my 4th gen TV for 24hrs and it's going back in the box, couple of disappointing features: 1. The remote sucks, you can't grab it in low light and know which way it is pointing, generally causing a forward or backward scan of a movie every time you grab it. 2. The home screen icons are huge, there must be a way of reducing their size. 3. The onscreen keyboard sucks. 4. Now TV in the UK is missing, not apple's fault, but still lame
Well let's hope Apple doesn't come out and prohibit alternate text entry methods.
Perhaps Apple wants a consistent user experience by forcing users to use only the Siri remote for text input. The bad part is the on-screen keyboard is worse than the T9 text input cell phones had 15 years ago.
I didn't have time to mess around with it much yesterday. Launched the Netflix app and like others said, it is a dud. It is the Smart TV version. So that is the future of AppleTV. The content providers no longer have to follow the AppleTV UI. They can do their app in their own way, which will make all the apps have inconsistent UIs. You might as well use the app in your Smart TV and have more content available, like Amazon. So I will take mine back and keep my ATV3s. Not because of the remote, but because apps are now identical to the inferior Smart TV versions. Bummer. The apps in the old AppleTV offered so much more as far as search features based in the program being viewed.

The remotes are different enough that it probably requires a whole new app.
As for other posts, this is the first week of the Apple TV App store. Many developers only got their test machine a few weeks ago, others are only getting them this week after they buy one. Why complain that not all apps you want are there the first week. I'm actually surprised there are as many as there are. There are enough that Apple needs to build a better way to browse them.
A new, dedicated AppleTV app would be a great move. But, a move that should have been made in concert with the new release of AppleTV.
Just as long as it’s not part of the OS, please. I have no intention of ever getting a Watch or this Apple TV. Regarding the latter, I’m waiting for it to actually replace historic television service methods to even see any need to switch out my existing ones.
Or shift his focus from political issues back to the products.
supporting anti discrimination laws isn't political. it's just human decency. and as an employer with workers in these states it's in their corporate interest.
and the notion that Cook supporting these measures takes away effort from product is, frankly, stupid.

I suspect people who have never owned an AppleTV before may have a different set of expectations compared to previous model owners.

Maybe. I have to wonder if some of these developers actually used their app on the big screen? The HBO Go app is beautiful but some of the text is so tiny if you're sitting farther away from your TV you'd never be able to read it. In the screen shot below that episode description text could certainly be larger.

Not sure who Twitter user @gentry is but he tweeted this about iPad Pro:

Writing is believing. iPad [Pro + Pencil] is *so good*

Apple just did to real paper what digital cameras did to film
