In an apparent technical glitch, Apple Card users have discovered that Amazon has removed the card from available payment options, and it cannot be added again.

Update: Amazon confirmed the glitch, and it appears to have been fixed as of Sunday.

Users began reporting the issue on Friday afternoon as the card disappeared from user's payment options. The card cannot be added back, and users are met with an error when an attempt is made.

The Apple Card is a standard credit card from Goldman Sachs that uses the Mastercard payment network. There are no indications as to why the card is not working on Amazon's store.

A source inside Apple corporate not authorized to speak on behalf of the company told AppleInsider that "the problem is not on Apple's or Goldman Sachs' end."

Goldman Sachs says "they're aware of the issue and are working to resolve it as soon as possible," though that is just a standard reply and doesn't indicate anything in particular.

This means the issue lies within Amazon, though it is not known if this is an error in the system or intentional.

Other Mastercard credit cards continue to work as expected, with the impact of the issue limited to just Apple Card holders.

The Apple Card is a digital-first credit card that has reasonable cash back rewards. Apple first released the card in 2019 and has added multiple incentive programs like interest free product purchases and 3% cash back from select partners.

Update: On Friday at 2:58 P.M. Eastern Time, Amazon told us in a statement that "we are aware of this technical issue and are actively working to resolve it as soon as possible." No timetable for restoration was given.
As of Sunday, it appears Amazon has cleared up the issue for Apple Card users, with payment details for the card now reappearing and usable in accounts.

Wow. Makes Apple into a victim here, along with Apple Card users.

Considering that you only earn 1% with purchases at Amazon using your Apple Card, why would you even bother? I use my Apple Card only with Apple Pay... I've never even physically used the actual card or CC number in the over year I've had it. And for Amazon purchases, I use the my Amazon card for 5% back.

If it’s not a glitch, then Amazon is clearly violating their agreement with MasterCard.
Some companies, questionably discriminate against pre-paid, foreign, or debit cards.

But it discriminating based on a bank or co-branding, that’s unheard of, and if that’s what they’re trying to do, it definitely is time for a lawsuit.

A reporter should first seek out comment from Amazon before posting. This would be standard journalistic practice instead of leaving the question open-ended.

We did. This is noted in the post, and has been since publication. This is why we weren't first to the story.

Just discovered this last night while trying to order a Synology RS820 NAS and 4 8TB drives. B&H Photo won the gig instead and I got my 3% (which amounts to cutting my sales tax in half). They already have the g’vmt hassling them, why go after each other?

    Apologies for missing that disclaimer.

    That’s awesome!

When is it expected to arrive and what’s your address?

Anyone who shops at Amazon and is a Prime member should get the Amazon card by Chase as it gives 5%.

Hopefully this is just a mix up or technical issue on the Amazon side.

Interesting ... I just removed my Apple Card as an Amazon payment method.

I had three mysterious Apple charges at Amazon for Subscribe and Save items, and I removed Apple Card as a payment option so all my S&S items would revert to using my Amazon Rewards card and I'd be getting 5% back instead of 1% from Apple Card.

No clue as to how those items got on Apple Card to begin with - I had added Apple Card just as a backup payment method.

And that’s relevant to the article how?  Amazon should still allow using the card.

Yes great until you actually have to return something to B&H, assuming it’s even eligible for return.

That might explain my two hours wasted.

I ordered two kindle books, and they haven’t downloaded yet. Been on Amazon trying to figure out why. I thought I had set up the Apple Card as my default, but it wasn’t in the list of cards. Okay, maybe I was wrong, so I made another card my default.

My digital orders are still sitting there, but they’re not be synced to the kindle app.

I can’t call Amazon on this because they have no customer service, in reality. It’s like dealing with a fly-by-night organization.

That will only get worse as Bezos' wealth and power rise to level "Unobtainium"

AMAZON is EVIL! Walmart is same to me as don't accept ApplePay. Costco,Target and rest of retailers are better who accepts ApplePay for customers convenience. Once my Driver license and Passport goes on iPhone; don't need to take wallet with me. Let me be free of plastic cards.

I contacted their customer support about it. Wasted 25 min before they said they had  to send me to someone in that area. Easy fix. I canceled my Amazon prime  membership and deleted their app. I just won’t use Amazon anymore. Not a loss, wasn’t getting the 2 day shipping anyway.

Who says they don't?  This is almost certainly a glitch.  It it weren't Apple-related, it wouldn't be news at all.

Yes you can.  I called them just the other day to return a product slightly outside the return window that turned out to be fake.  No muss no fuss, and no return shipping. ("Food Saver" bag rolls - that's what I get for not opening them when I got them...)
