    AppleStore Finland

    Shipping in 3-5 weeks:

    1GHz PowerPC G4

    Dual 1,25GHz PowerPC G4

    Now shipping:

    Dual 1,42GHz PowerPC G4

Why in Finland & Sweden we have shipping in 3-5 weeks and in AppleStore UK has now shipping? I just can't understand.

I just called the Swedish Apple Store and they said that the 1 GHz and the dual 1.25 GHz will ship at the end of the week if ordered today. Is there a reason why the online store and the one I called have different dates?

OK, let me throw a little oil in the fire. In the macbidouille forums, there have been contributions from employees working in the french FNAC. Apparently, the FNAC has received boxes from Apple, which for now cannot be opened (strictly prohibited). The little ones, are in the size of the 15" powerbook box, while the large ones are very large. Even the bosses don't know what is in there (at least that's what they are saying). I can hardly imagine they contain the new iPods

Furthermore, it has been known that the 15" powerbook 867MHz is in the end of its life, not the 1GHz though (we always talk about FNAC).

Personally, I would say NO 970 powerbook this year.

I hope they are still boxes, that is, not 1 inch thick.

Very large? moki said so too. But why? What for would they make very large boxes? 6 PCI slots? 128 RAM slots? 8 CPUs? Two 5kW power supplies? Weird.

That's what Apple Profiler is for. They'd better take their NDA as an excuse rather than that they don't know. If they really don't know how to use Mac OS X to learn what is inside a box, they shouldn't have received them.

The fact is, nobody wants to talk these days for fear of that big awful Steve with long hands and blood dripping down his teeth.

Ehrm.... I think they mean cardboard boxes with some kind of apparatus inside and which are not supposed to be opened. Consequently it's pretty hard to sneak a powercable in there and blindly mess around with a mouse hoping to hit the Apple Profiler......

Did you mean the relative clock frequency (666 = 2*1.8GHz; 222 = 666/3 = 1.2 GHz)? Isn't 1.2GHz too little to amuze Wall Street and enough to crucify Steve Jobs?

    Any ideas?

The internal names very rarely have anything to do with the actual design. For instance"Lombard", "Wall Street", "Pismo", "Universe", "Yikes!", "Sawtooth", "Yosimite" and "SnowWhite" etc. etc. I think these names are designed to give people who read too much into them a bum-steer.

Exactly, that's what they mean, cardboard boxes. It is strictly forbidden for everyone to open such a box. And I can't understand how they received things without having a clue of what is inside...

well, i can now, without a shadow of a doubt, expect new towers AT wwdc, regardless of the other people saying "don't get your hopes up." why? simple -- Greg "Jaws" Joswiak, vice president of hardware product marketing at Apple, will be doing the keynote at "the-trade-show-formerly-known-as-macworld-but-then-create-then-something-else."

not phil schiller, so it's not just a sales keynote, and i can't recall the last time greg poked his prarie (sp?) dog head above ground to address the masses (if ever), which means there IS new hardware that he will have to review (and i highly doubt they'll roll him out just fro the ipods and the 12" & 17" powerbooks). plus, if it is really so cool that they need to devote a keynote to it, you would THINK steve would want to be there. so why isn't he?

simple -- he will have already shown them at wwdc, and will be leaving greg to do the cleanup duty of explaining under the hood, among other things.

so there you go -- significantly new hardware at wwdc. *CONFIRMED*

i agree...joz is a good sign that the hardware will be announced and shown at WWDC (SJ doesn't like to share the limelight) and then that hardware will be further explained and given updates on progress and availability by joz of life

    g

timeline---PM shown at WWDC...4-6 weeks later--PM shipping---8 weeks later, panther shipping

OK for a little oil again? Well, an anonymous, of course, says in macbidouille that he knows someone in contact with a commercial agent in the FNAC in order to buy an Xserve. The agent fixed an appointment with the client just after June 23, since, according to agent, on 23 we will have some important announcements and it is better to discuss the hardware innovations just after that date.

    So Xserve too?

Edit: the agent is not in the FNAC, but in Apple.

Over at macrumors they are talking about a forum at macdoobie where one posted-

    Quote:

I'm reading through the thread on the MacBidouille boards, and here's another interesting post.

"I have just made the round of several Paris-area FNAC stores. It seems that the central warehouses, which supply the individual FNAC stores, have already taken delivery [actual product not specified] and that the systems will be on sale on the 24th [of June]. Aside from that, not a single store told me (or wanted to tell me?) that they had received boxes."

Looks like French Mac users have just as obsessed with rumors as their English-speaking counterparts here on MacRumors.

So, half say nothing till September and Europeans say the 24th.

I only have information about one Apple Store in Florida, the 15" books have been EOL'd and they have few on supply. we also have a few boxes (usually used for display materials) there are a few of these, enough to re-place almost all of the banners in the store. These are marked to "not to be opened or displayed until 6/23 by store manager" There are also display boxes we have had for a while but aren't open, I don think they say not to open though.

We have few Power Macs on hand, but they are enough for perhaps a few weeks, none have been shipped to us in weeks (at least?) We also have the fewest displays on hand than I have seen in a while, but we have a shipment coming in 1 week, I think that is just coincidence though.

I have heard that the distribution center has 2 huge pallets for us (marked with our store #) to be delivered on the 23rd as well.

Dapper Dan? I recall seeing that name on another Apple related website recently - could you be one in the same?

If so, your source could conceivably have info on the new pro towers.

Or was that just a clever detail in a prank posting?

I don't work at that store

But I will say this, I am 100% sure about new hardware and new software.

I don't know about Power Macs and I am not even counting on those from what I know/have heard.

The best case would be PMs announced and shipping in 4-8 weeks. That is my "guess".

As for new hardware it will be a DLD.

As I said I am 100% sure about 1 new hardware device, but I have no insider information or anything else to prove I know anything more.

    Think big and think small.
