A simple thing that is due is a 4X dvd writer, aka Pioneer A105 . It exists in the PCworld already, even current Formac firewire drives have it...

Sorry about 2 earlier bogus posts, this is my first day.

I think any G4 on the tower will be dual because of the speed defecit. Also, I belive once Apple goes 970, the G4 is done with and left to th consumer models. I don't think Apple will have G4 & 970 towers except for the quark-users-who-for-whatever-reason-cant-update-to-X-yet model.

IMHO a G3 PowerMac with OS9 would make Quark users happy, Apple should offer a QuarkedMac only for them.

You're kidding right? If Quark doesn't have their act together by the time the 970 ships, Steve will burn the Quark 5 user manual on stage while wearing an Adobe InDesign G-string.

There will be no OS 9 Power Macs or staggered G4/970 product lineup. Steve will use the intro of the 970 (branded as a G5) to move the G4 to consumer machines only. Hell, I wouldn't be suprised if these G5 Power Macs were used as an excuse to drop Classic support all together. These boxes will be for pros running Shake, Maya and Avid. FCP and the OS X only Photoshop 8 will actually be low end apps for these machines. OS 9 in any form will not be welcome.

The prediction about lowend SP G4 (or even 970) is problematic. The curent lowend tower is a dual 867 MHz that give OS X and several applications a performance on par with SP G4 at about 1.5 GHz so replacing it with anything slower than 1.5 is a downgrade and Apple have had one experience to many with down clocking

My guess for the towers (95%)

Speedbumped dual G4 towers. Possibly with tweaks like front mounted USB FW2 ports. Hard disk sleds as in the Xserver or other stuff that needs major revision of case and motherboard very unlikely.

    The p< 0.05 scenario

Introduction of 970 in a radically different box crammed full with new stuff from blue thooth to (gasp) a two button mouse!

New iMacs with the SP 970 replacing the current G4 lineup

And the even less likely:Staggered releases different versions...

    A. Staggered CPUs new cases with the old G4

-Have to add G4 support to new motherboards for temporary use

    B. Staggered motherboard releases as G4 and yikes.

-Have to add 970 support to the old moherboard for a one of model

    C. Having the new and old tower sold side by side. I would rate this as the least unlikely scenario. A dual 1.2 GHz G4 as the new low end right away. In new cases a dual 970 1.4 aviablesome few weeks away and the new top end at 1.6 after several weeks. This would be quite similar to the introduction of the latest models.

Apple seem to be very good at playing with the cards very close to their chest, and the labs seem more leakproof than Depend diapers so here we are playing the guessing game, adn dreaming

Apple has a 1.4 on the front page now. I can't be the first to see it?
